I searched this site for about 2 hours before writing this so I am pretty confident that this question has not been asked. Please forgive me if I missed the post.
I am creating an AVI that I am making from 3 full length movies. The total time is 5 hours and 10 minutes. I want the highest quality I can get. So far I have a 17GB MPG file ready to be authored but no program I try will create DVD files over the 9GB limit. Once I have the DVD files I will create a 4.3GB AVI of the edited movies that will play on my divx player. My question is, is there any program out there that will allow a 9+GB DVD folder to be created? Thank you to all who reply

If you have an MPEG file and you want to convert it to .AVI, why do you need to create a DVD at any point in your project?

I'm Sorry I use Fairuse to create my AVIs and I need them to be in a ISO DVD format for the program to read it. Every other program I have tried to convert MPG to AVI fails to live up to the quality I want. Fairuse hits the mark every time.

If, in fact, no program will accept a file greater than DVD-9 size (Have you tried "TMPGEnc DVD Author"?), I'd suggest the following:
1) Split your MPEG into two or, if need be, 3 files. Create a separate DVD "package" (.IFOs, .BUPs, and .VOBs) for each
2) Compress each DVD "package", using DVD Shrink or your preferred compression program
3) Use "TMPGEnc DVD Author v.1.6" to (3 consecutive times, once for each "package" in sequence) to "Add DVD video".
(You can obtain a FULLY functional free 30 day trial version of this commercial program at:
http://tmpgenc.pegasys-inc.com/en/download/tda16.html )
4) Save as ONE DVD...
BTW, from what I've read of "FairUse", it requires DVD format as input, but not necessarily an .ISO image file
**EDIT** I just tested "TMPGEnc DVD Author v.1.6 - You CAN use it to create a DVD "package" of whatever size you wish. Simply click on "Ignore" when it generates a filesize warning and save the "oversized" DVD "package" to your harddrive. No need for my alternative suggestion in Steps 1-4 above ;>}

Thank you so much for the info. I had tried TMPGEnc DVD Author v.1.6 and it got to the 9GB file size and halted with an error (It did allow me to ignore the file size but at the 9GB portion of the process it locked up with a runtime error). I will try again with your suggestion of DVD package. If that still does not work I will try your other advice. Thank you so much for everything I truly appreciate it.

No authoring program can make a VTS larger than 9GB because that is the limit (9 files of 1GB each). You can, however, make each movie a seperate titleset (VTS) to get around that limitation.
And there are many FREE alternative authoring programs which can do this, such as MuxMan.

BTW, from what I've read of "FairUse", it requires DVD format as input, but not necessarily an .ISO image file.Fairuse Wizard will not function with a VIDEO_TS folder, it only works with a DVD disc in the PC drive, or with an ISO file (mounted, or not mounted).
@EvilMagi I wonder why you feel compelled to put the 3 movies together first? Why not just process each one with FUW separately, and if you want to make one AVI from these (why tho???) then you can add them together w/another tool (maybe Vdubmod).

Thanks all, as most of you said TMPGEnc DVD Author v.1.6 came up with an error after the 9GB mark saying it can not continue because it would make the volume too big. I have made AVIs of all three movies 1.3GB each but when I apended them with Nandub or VirtualDub my Divx Player did see the completed AVI. It played fine on my computer but not on my Phillips DVP642. Usually every XVID I create with FU plays just fine as did all these seperately. However when put together with Nandub or VirtualDub they were unplayable.
When I am done with the VIDEO_TS folder I create and ISO from nero and then FU sees it perfectly and makes a great quality copy
Since I was younger I had fun editing movies just for my enjoyment and the reason behind these questions is that I took Back to the Future 1, 2 and 3 and edited it out the credits and duplicate scenes and made one complete movie. I do this for no reason but the enjoyment of seeing the finished product as a complete movie and not 3 seperate ones :) Thanks for all the advice. I will keep plugging away at it. I will also give MuxMan a try. Thanks again

I understand this perfectly. I'm retired now myself, and am having fun doing stuff in some cases for no better reason than that I now have the time to play at it!
