Hi,
I'm using AGK to convert some AVI files to Xvid. The auido is PCM 1536 kb/s (768/ch, stereo) @48khz. I can't work out to get AGK to keep audio as original. Any suggestions please?

afaik isn't possible. Just do your encoding then mux video with your pcm audio (previusly demuxed via virtualdub)

Hi,
AutoGK FAQ:
2.3 How is first audio encoded in Auto mode?
- it's VBR 128Kbps if target size is 700Mb or less, in all others cases it's original AC3/DTS/MPA track. LPCM tracks are always converted to VBR MP3: 128kbps for 1CD or less, 192kbps for more that 1CD.
Follow Buzzqw advice, if not familiar with the maths involved for the final size, Reverse bitrate calculator may help: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=813681#post813681

Thanx guys but . . . hate to say this buzzqw but I'll need some hand holding thru this one.
Do you mean forget AGK for the moment and run VirtualDub (I have VirtualDub 1.6.11) as a stand alone and do it all in there?

Hi,
Can't ATM give a long version so here is a short one (others possible)
1/Demux your PCM audio from source avi with VDMod
2/Guess your total final size with bitrate calculator
3/Encode your video only with AGK (no audio)
4/Mux your audio (join video+audio) with VDM in your target avi.
You're done if calculations and final result pleases you; if not, goto 2/ and try again
The how-to demux-mux has been covered quite a lot in regard with the AGK-audio out of synchs problems and solutions.

Hi poisson,
First up,you do realize AVI is just a container? Container Info (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Container_format),the Video could already be in Xvid Format..Anyways
First up .
1. Fire up virtualdubmod ,and open your exisiting AVI,then choose STREAMS / STREAM LIST,you should now see your ACM audio stream, now CLICK Demux, and save the audio stream.
2. Make a note of the filesize of the demuxed audio (ie. 30mb)
3. Fire up AUTOGK,and select the AVI as input, then make sure the Audio Tracks are set to `No Audio Track`,now set the custom size to the desired file size (minus the audio file size..ie 350mb final = 320 Video + 30 Audio)..Let AUTOGK do it`s stuff, and you should be left with a 320mb (example) video file.
4. Open Virtualdubmod, open the 320mb video file, goto STREAMS,Streams List ,click ADD,now add the audio you demuxed earlier, click OK
5. Still in virtualdubmod, goto VIDEO,and select DIRECT STREAM COPY,then goto File / Save as "enter your filename
this should give you an Audio/Video AVI of the correct size
EDIT: D`oh BigDid beat me too it.

Thanx Gehenna & Bigdid but I may need more detail yet.
When I click on demux, I get this dialogue box; (attached)
I'm not sure what to save to file as. There is no ext suggested.

Try .wav (if its PCM format as you originally stated).
Still unsure why you wish to keep this format..But thats your call i guess

Still unsure why you wish to keep this format...???
Thanx G. Will try wave.
Keeping PCM format because it would appear, using AGK, my only other choices would be to compress to MP3 and when I've tried that, I'm hearing a slight loss of sound quality. But I'm an amatuer at this so I'm open to suggestions
The original footage is mini-dv. It's of myself with my band. Ultimately I actually want to get it to DVD. I originally did all the capture with Adobe Premiere. The sound wasn't too crash hot as it was recorded using the in-camera stereo mic. So I seperated to audio, (demuxed I guess although I wasn't aware of that term at the time) did a ton of EQ work on it, striped it back in, edited the video then exported it out of A.P. as a14GB AVI file.
I then had a crack at making a DVD (on 4.7GB disc) using Ulead. The sound remained OK but the picture quality was somewhat undesirable.
Then MP4 came along, hence the messing around with AGK and the massive improvement in picture quality.
I'll still need to learn how I'm gonna get that to DVD . . .!!??

No Worrys, like i say its your call.
Have you tried adjusting the Audio in "Advanced Options` in AUTOGK? ,set it to something like CBR 192/224 kbps, and the difference should be nigh on imperceivable to you (but its quite a subjective topic)
EDIT: Hmm you seem to be making a lot of extra work for yourself,so you are currently taking a 14GB (yow!)file and recompressing it down to ??
Not sure what you are hoping to achieve by encoding the file twice,do me a favour and get Mediainfo (http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en),install it ,then select the 14gb file,RC,LC mediainfo
Do you still have the project file? for AP (i dont use AP myself)
EDIT: Im starting to drift out my depth here, and never having seen or used AP, im unsure of the Export options availiable in AP (especially considering you actually want to create a DVD) [ I use editstudio 5,which allows you to export to DVD format]
EDIT2: Yep G-Spot is fine, just curious to see what format the video is in.

I have Mediainfo lurking about somewhere but G-spot's nice and handy? How about that? Or how about File Information in VDM?

What's the picture quality like with editstudio5?
I'm out of my depth too. Doesn't the pic quality depend on what codecs are used? I've tried a handful of DVD programs and none of them seem to produce a good a picture as does xvid . . . . ??
