Is there a free-use codec to emulate a webcam?

I'm looking for a codec that will yield output as if it were a webcam. CamStudio (free-use, similar to Camtasia - http://www.camstudio.org) could use such a codec to send parts of a desktop as screencasts. There would need to be support for the mouse pointer.

Does such a thing exist?

Well, it turns out such a beast does exist. It will capture the full screen, a window or a defined rectangular area on the screen and looks like a DirectShow source. Woohoo!!!
