View Full Version : Leiming's x264 GUI Last version [AVS/Other Media to x264 & AAC in MKV/MP4]
leiming2006
24th June 2006, 10:09
This is a GUI for x264 which is just like the x264VFW.
"x264.exe" is needed. Put "x264.exe" together with this GUI.
At first, without AviSynth x264.exe can only support uncompressed input.
If you want to use the audio encoder you must have "bepipe.exe" and select an audio encoder between "enc_aacplus.exe(dll)" or "neroaacenc(_sse2).exe" or both.
If you want to muxer the audio into final file, you need "mkvmerge.exe", "mp4box.exe" or "mp4creator.exe"
(STRONGLY RECOMMEND that use "No mux" mode, it's most stable, but it's not convenient anyway)
If these programs are not in the same directory with this gui, you may like to edit the "setpath.ini".
If you feed it non-avs file, you can choose an avs file in "avsinc" directory to deal with the input files.
So you can create avs files in "avsinc" directory as you want. ("fs" stands for the filename and "mfn" stands for the filename without its extension)
If this package damage your rights you can tell me, I'll stop offer the package at once.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Feature:
*Very VFW-liked.
*Add awful number of files once.
*Support AVS Script preset, so using non-avs files as input is possible.
*Conditional double passes, estimating the right Q means finishing in only one pass.
*Support audio encoding and automated muxing.
*Support automated double passes.
*Support shutdown after jobs done.
*Support log recoding.
*Can work as an audio encoding GUI
*Bitrate calculated automated.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DISCUSSION: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=112770
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What does the new button, checkbox and ect. from the VFW mean?
1.Bitrate page
Input file and output file: as it is
Refresh: check if there are new avs script presets and new config presets
checkbox Size: tick this, you can type the final size directly. the bitrate will be calculated when you press the "add" button.
The two combo boxes: in the left one there are avs script presets, in the right one there are config presets
The "S" and "L" button in the right: "S" stands for "save" and "L" stands for "Load", save config and load config. preset's name can be input into the right combo box
Files input: Add more than 1 files once, how to operate please see below.
logfile: If a file is in the text box, when encoding all information x264 output is recoded into the file.
2.More page
Checkbox Audio: tick this, the audio will be encoded, too.
The two combo boxes below: the left one is to select an audio encoder and the right one is to select a muxer.
*WARNING* I strongly recommend to use "no mux" mode, in case it didn't work well the file x264 output would be delete incorrectly. x264 always works slowly so when it happened it's very terrible.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How to batch encoding:
1. Set all options well.
2. Press "Files input" button.
3. Select a folder to output.
4. Select input file, you can hold Ctrl key to select more than 1 file or press "Ctrl+A" to select all files in current folder.
5. Go to the "job" page and do what you should do.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
New mode:
Automated double passes: as it says. with "fast" means in the first pass it's faster.
1P-CRF: means in the first pass it uses "--crf" to get the stat file.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What is "Conditional Double Passes"?
"Conditional Double Passes", or "Size Mode", is used for those who use "Automated double passes(1P-CRF)" and the purpose of using "double passes" is to reach a certain size.
The difference between these is that the 1st pass of "Size mode" will output file and if the size of this file is in a certain range the 2nd pass will be cancelled to save time.
*NOTICE* The max. and min. size means only the video, and if you tick "Size", the "size" downer will take audio into consideration.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
About the Presets:
They are converted from MeGUI's Profiles manually, I can't guarantee that they are all converted correctly.
Please recheck it before usage.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Warning:
USING THIS PROGRAM IS ALL AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!

I think you are pretty close to the perfect one click encoder.
Maybe you can add a way to select filesizes instead of bitrates.

Looks neat :)
Have you recreated it from scratch ? if so it would be great that you add all the vfw-missing features ;)
Just one "bug" I noticed clicking a bit everywhere : in the job tab, clicking on "make bat" and pressing "cancel" leaves an empty ".bat" file in x264gui.exe's directory (nothing to worry about really, but ... ;))
This is great stuff indeed, simple and straightforward.
Just one thing : enc_AacPlus.dll is part of the winamp package if I'm not mistaken, is it available with the *light* version or should we purchase the *pro* one ?
MeteorRain
26th June 2006, 10:21
DarkZell666: the aac encoder shouldn't be included in the package because of its license. thus ppl should download them theirselves.
EDIT(DarkZell666:
I'm not sure if i misunderstand you. Are you talking about that winamp has 2 versions, one is the light and another is the pro, and asking whether the encoder platform matches the light one or the pro?)
leiming2006

I have removed this, only enc_aacplus.exe is there.
Could you please check this again?

Does it have commandline functions?

it's quite silly to ask for command line functions in a gui for a command line encoder... dont you think?

2006-06-27: Add the changelog. Thanks all that help me before.

@MeteorRain :
In fact, the readme says that we need encAacPlus.dll with a nice "(you'll have to get this yourself)", and there was indeed only encAacPlus.exe (which is useless without the corresponding DLL I suppose ;))
I wanted to figure out in which versions of winamp I would be able to get it (thx foxyshadis for the investigation ;))
it's quite silly to ask for command line functions in a gui for a command line encoder... dont you think?
rofl, I've seen this somewhere already concerning MeGUI, so who came first then ? the chicken or the egg ? ;)

I have been trying this for the last few hours. Made a 5 min vob to test it out on and wrote a avs script that sets up audio and video to your program. I find that CT needs NSCRT.dll or it won't run and Nero only creates an MP4 file that MP4Creator will not accept as input. Have you considered MP4Box as an alternative? It also accepts chapters and subs :)
Oh! BTW the internal bat file ends rather strangely with error at end it seems you are trying to delete the work file(s) twice and it would be nice if it closed the DOS box. :)
I do like this little program as it allows me to write and prove my own scripts in close to real time using AVSEdit and then feed it straight away to the encoder for finishing. Chapters, Subs and perhaps second audio tracks as options would be a nice touch. I think someone else suggested profiles or getting the program to save and load profiles. In the Oct 1 version this is still not working as well as the reset function.
Does anyone know the settings or range of settings for basic QuiickTime compatibility? Or perhaps a link!
Thanks for the hard work!

Lately I've tried to open an .avi file for encoding (which was in XviD format, using "XVID" fourCC), but x264 only supports YV12 in avi. (and so the encoding didn't take place normally).
It would be great if your GUI could generate a dumb temporary avs file that would contain one single line like : return DirectShowSource("theAVIfile.avi") and open that avs file instead of the avi file. I'd hate having to create an avs file for each clean avi file that doesn't need avisynth processing ... =)
It took me a while to figure out why the bat file didn't work.
I had to execute manually each cmdline to see the problem.
Great work though, this is the quickest avs to avc+aac solution i've seen so far, after Mencoder264 (except that it doesn't expose all x264's options in the GUI, the settings ini file needs to be modified by hand).
I'll have another try later on with an avs file.
Edit after having tried : I ran into the same problem(s) dumbuser described.

OK! Nice work! I tried several short encodes tonight and It worked well :) I have been finding CT a bit smother video wise than ND but that has nothing to do with your work. As I recall ND is ABR or VBR only and that's probably the reason.
I work allot with the AVS script to get things right and then do short samples of the difficult sections so I'm going to make some suggestions here that may or may not be applicable to others. Please take this with good intent, there is no pressure here! :)
1. The files input would be best served on the 4th page under More and the load/save (that can be used to create and recall profiles) moved to the first page as this would serve work flow better.
2. It would be nice if when you pressed the add button the input and output did not go away. Perhaps a "Job" button instead of an add button or may be "Enqueue" would be more accurate. I do realize that if it does not clear, the next job is a bit harder to setup. But it is also difficult when you just want to come back and make a few changes and run the script again or have made a few changes to the script.
3. I have so much stuff on my desk top when I work with video it is truly pathetic as I keep loosing things and often I think Windows stacks things in a horrible way :) but I'm going to ask if it is possible to do away with one of those DOS boxes?? If you can't, couldn't it be minimized at least. It would look allot more professonal if the x264 configuration menu would just turn into an information screen when you started the encode and at the end, wait with the results on screen until you cleared it.
I made about 3 or 4 profiles tonight and have run the first few and it seems to work well. The last one I ran as a manual bat file and noticed the second DOS box didn't appear.
BTW Thanks for a nice small tool and the quick response. :D

Ya! I understand. :)
This morning I tried to run a CE-Baseline profile I made last night and it wouldn't allow it. The error was no input. So I cleared the job and chose another profile and the program became confused locking out functions that shouldn't be locked. ??? I restarted the program and everything was OK! Then I checked the profile I made for CE-Baseline and couldn't find anything wrong but it still wouldn't run. So erased the profile and remade it but to no avail. :( The rest of the few profiles I made were OK! Well, except the one I made and called it "Default" representing My Defaults but you got there before I did and erased it! :) I do understand this one and will call it something else.
I may be a bit dense on this one! What was (is) the intent of "Files Input"? It makes two directories (Stats & AVS) then asks me for an AVS file and after I select one it does nothing???? If you intended it to be the stats storage for second pass then shouldn't it also load the avs file as input? Even then I'm not quite sure of the purpose of the avs directory. I generally store avs files with the the files for the project. Except for avs templets.
leiming2006
8th October 2006, 05:15
After you press "Files input", it ask you for a output folder then you can select more than one file (hold "ctrl"). then press "Open" so that the file you selected will be added to the job list.
The "Default, ini" is used to make exe. When you press the "Default", a default.ini will be created then loaded then deleted.
I am in a little exam at the moment. And after the summer break the pay for the access to the internet changed from 68 yuan per month to 2 yuan per hour so I can't get online often. Would you have the mind that editing the source code by yourself and try it. According to the GPL you can do nearly everything on the source code.
There are so many bugs in the config-loading and config-saving system. And there are so much to be improved. So until next time I update the file may be a long time.
PS: There may be something I can't express clearly causing that some function foreigners can't understand. I'm sorry for my bad English. XD

Something improved: Only one DOS box will be show.

That's quite a change for Internet access. I know every time I go get groceries here the prices are different, always higher. The government keeps telling us everything is OK! But I think we all know it's not.
On a brighter note, I haven't found any more bugs. The Trellis box on the More page under Misc. options is grayed and not settable under any conditions. This seems to be the last bug. So if you get the opportunity to find this one it would be great. :)
No rush or pushing here. Just a thanks for being a nice person with great little tool for h264. Much better than the other x264GUI floating around here that took some 6 or 7 developers to do it. :)

(Yourfreewebspace is so slow to me. I don't know why)
Not always. Just because it needs CABAC. But I make them mixed. If tick the CABAC it will be disabled (orz)
Now If tick the CABAC it will be enabled.
The reason why the price of internet is changed is that I am in Senior 3 student and up to the terrible exam (XD). For it my parent stop the access to internet that is paid by month. I only can get online by which is paid by hour.

Using the latest version, I still needed to replace avisource by directshowsource and add ConvertToYV12() (since my avi file was YUY2 ...)
I like the way you used import("../process.avs"), this allowed me to get x264 to accept my source file easily. I would recommend you add ConvertToYV12() at the end of process.avs in your next release though, others will need that :)
Encoding in progress, will come back with more infos later :)

It worked great !
I only had one 'problem' : mplayer wouldn't seek in the generated mp4 file. (MPUI even reported the file as being 0:01 long ...) This isn't really your "fault".
Maybe adding the --fps parameter to mp4box would work, but you would have to "detect" the file's framerate, with MediaInfo for ex, which means adding another program to the list, and so on ...
I'll see if the problem isn't on my side first.

In fact, I didn't have mp4box in the GUI's directory, so the sound didn't get muxed with the video, and this is what caused the problem with mplayer (no problems with mpc though).
Finally, it works great !! (for crf at least ... :p)
- Why is there 2x the mp4box cmdline in the batch list when clicking on the "Add" button ?
- When choosing "MultiPass - 1st pass", the batch also contains audio and muxing jobs, which should only be done on N-th pass. 1st pass should only add the x264 cmdline only, imho.
- When executing the batch with MultiPass 1st and Nth pass, x264 exits saying "unknown option -- s". Here's the 1st pass cmdline :
x264.exe --progress --no-psnr --scenecut 40 -I 250 -i 25 -t 1 --threads 1 --me dia --sar 1:1 -r 1 --nr 100 -f 0:0 -b 5 --direct "spatial" --bime --b-bias 0 --b-pyramid -w --ipratio 1.400000 --pbratio 1.300000 -p 1 -stats "D:\_etienne\lmx264gui\stats\bleachopening.mp4.stat" -A p8x8,i4x4 -B 350 --qpmin 10 --qpmax 51 --qpstep 4 --qcomp 0.600000 -m 3 -o "D:\bleachopening.mp4" "D:\_etienne\lmx264gui\avs\bleachopening.avi.avs"
The -stats option should in fact be --stats.
- What about adding "Automated 2-pass (fast 1st pass)" mode ?
I'm starting to understand how the code works (it's pretty trivial in fact :p), I hadn't understood that the main function had a huge event pump (repeat ... until.) to handle the GUI.
I might install a PureBasic IDE soon :)

Bug fixed: I write "--stats" as "-stats". orz (DarkZell666)
Bug fixed: 2 mp4box commandline will be added. (DarkZell666)
@DarkZell666: The "DirectshowSource" is much slower than use "AVISource" when the input file's extension is "AVI".
This is the only reason.
And about the "ConvertToYV12", anyone can edit it by himself. I leave the process.avs nearly empty is for the user to edit ^_^
You can use either mp4box or mp4creator this time.
quote: it's pretty trivial in fact
reply: It's the truth. I'm just a beginner. XD
The complex program can't be made by me.
PS: Finally you find it that the program is nothing in fact... unlike MeGUI XD
quote: a huge event pump (repeat ... until)
reply: When the codes run to the end, all will disappeared, including the window.
^o^
Then when I get the access to the internet that is paid by month I'll see what surprised will happen to the code.
But after the college entrance exam I will learn more program-making to make something really useful, unlike the simple GUI.

Trellis seems correct and the CABAC interlock also seems correct.
Check your command line structure in both muxers. In one case it's duplicated and in the other the audio is deleted before it is muxed.
ND is still kinda strange to me rather closed down to center and it has the higher bit rate almost double of CT and leaves the picture not quite as smooth. This may have nothing to do with what you are doing though. Seems My MPC is reporting AAC as being 24k @ 768Kps and I know this is wrong. CoreAAC and Haali report the file as being 48K with ND @ 112Kps and CT @ 68Kps AAC+SBR. There is something in the back of my mind that suggests that AAC+SBR is muxed differently than AAC LC.
Still looking for center ground for H264 & QT. But in general I'm seeing what others are saying about it and that's kinda sad.
I really don't see a difference in the muxers. :)

OK! I should have DL the latest one as this seems to work as far as the command line mix up. :)
As for the audio it should be this:
bepipe.exe --script "import(^D:\vStrip test\LS2.avs^)" | neroaacenc_sse2.exe -if - -of temp.mp4 -ignorelength -cbr 64000
You write this:
bepipe.exe --script "import(^D:\vStrip test\LS2.avs^)" | neroaacenc_sse2.exe -if - -of temp.mp4 -ignorelength -br 64000
But, I think I would still prefer CBR LC @ 128k for both CT and ND as default for movies. Am doing some checking now.
edit.
The CBR setting for ND does resolve the jerky video problem.
Setting both CT & ND to:
bepipe.exe --script "import(^D:\vStrip test\LS2.avs^)" | enc_aacplus.exe - temp.aac --lc --cbr 128000
bepipe.exe --script "import(^D:\vStrip test\LS2.avs^)" | neroaacenc_sse2.exe -if - -of temp.mp4 -ignorelength -lc -cbr 128000
improves space, depth and perceived frequency response.
This should be the default specially if the source is 5.1 where even higher bitrates may be desirable.

You might want to take a look at this:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=838375#post838375
It is the way I understand it too!
This means that Pass 1 in a multi pass encode can be Fast
and Pass 2 can be the final pass or final Nth pass in a multi pass encode which if Nth pass can also be Fast.
The Final pass would always be Pass 2 (even for Nth pass)and can't be fast.
I have seen this explained in several Guides too and probably means that the original x264VFW is not correct. Please note there is no Pass 2 option or fast option for Nth Pass within the x264VFW. But all of this does exist in x264.exe. In my opinion Pass 2 should be marked "Pass 2 Final Pass" to be less confusing for users. :)
This should be food for thought while you work on auto 2 Pass. Another update in the mean time wouldn't hurt. :)

Or pheraps you can add to the gui your own calculator?

I have no idea about get the bitrate to reach a certain size.
Maybe you can try the simple way:
size(KB) = bitrate(kbps) / 8 * time(second)
Or in my opinion the calc which is contained in Koepi's XviD Binary can be use.

How I cheat.
I am using this program and here is what I do. I use autogk but I rename the virutaldubmod.exe to something else. When I run autogk it fails when it begins video decoding. But, you are left with the following files in the agk_tmp directory.
> a normilized mp3 file
> the d2v file
> an avs script that crops, resizes, de-noises.
I add "ConvertToYV12()" to the last line of the avs and then I use the avs script for the input to Leiming's x264 GUI and then use mp4box (or mp4box/YAMB) to mux in the audio.

I don't know. The file "process.avs" includes "ConvertToYV12()" at the end. I think it's because "Avisource" can't load your source probably. Maybe you can edit the "process.avs" yourself but maybe I will change it "AVS Script Preset" selection instead of always using "process.avs" recently. I recommend you using a AVS Script as input; it's more safe.

Nice to see the cool recent additions you made to your GUI =)
The AVS presets are a nice idea indeed !
However be careful, the default value for audio bitrate is set to 64000kbps (instead of 64kbps), and you do a x1000 calculation on that value when generating the "bps" value, which indeed gives 64000kbps (64000000bps), but both audio encoders crash (obviously). I finally saved my profile with 64kbps, but I spent 30 minutes finding out why it wouldn't work :p
And on first launch, all the values are set to "0" or "1" (instead of, say, 60 for qcomp, etc.). I needed to set them all correctly before I could use it.
Keep up the good work !

When you choose the input file, change the output file extension from .mp4 to .264, and in the "more" tab, choose "no mux" instead of "mp4box".
I've just downloaded the latest version and it works.

Hi all. I would like to ask which is the correct function I have to write in an .avs, so that this nice gui will encode the .ac3 audio file into CT AAC. I have all the necessary files in the same folder (MP4Box.exe, enc_aacPlus.exe and BePipe.exe). Until now, I was using avs scripts generated by GKnot for video encoding only, but now I want to take advantage of the integrated audio encoding ability.

The difference between these is that the 1st pass of "Size mode" will output file and if the size of this file is in a certain range the 2nd pass will be cancelled to save time.

about the ac3 audio, you can try an avs plugin called "nicaudio". it may help.

Hello leiming2006. I have made my first successful encoding with audio by using that simple script:
---
LoadPlugin("D:\My ALL Programs\MPEG-4 Programs\DGIndex v1.4.9 b12\DGDecode.dll")
LoadPlugin("D:\My ALL Programs\MPEG-4 Programs\AviSynth\Useful Plugins\NicAudio DLL v1.1\NicAudio.dll")
LoadPlugin("D:\My ALL Programs\MPEG-4 Programs\AviSynth\Useful Plugins\UnDot.dll")
audio=NicAC3Source("C:\NO_GOOD_DEED\No_Good T01 2_0ch 192Kbps DELAY -49ms.ac3")
video=MPEG2Source("C:\NO_GOOD_DEED\No_Good.d2v",idct=5).Crop(0,12,-4,-12)
audiodub(video,audio)
Tweak(sat=1,cont=1,hue=0,bright=20.0)
Lanczos4Resize(704,368)
Undot()
---
If I understood correctly, something like this you were meaning when you were talking about nicaudio ("you can try an avs plugin called nicaudio"). Any comments/suggestions for my script would be welcome.
After that I tried to encode stuff from a lossless TV capture (768x576 Lagarith). Despite the simplicity of the script and the fact that is perfectly playable, your GUI cannot start the process. To be more accurate, the command line window closes after 2 seconds.
---
LoadPlugin("D:\My ALL Programs\MPEG-4 Programs\AviSynth\Useful Plugins\Decomb DLL v5.2.2\Decomb.dll")
video=Segmentedavisource("C:\Mpekas.avi")
audio=WavSource("E:\Mpekas.wav")
audiodub(video,audio)
crop(14,2,-10,-4)
FieldDeinterlace()
Lanczos4Resize(736,560)
Tweak(sat=1,cont=1,hue=0,bright=10.0)
---
Have you any idea about that?
DarkZell666
24th February 2007, 22:46
To be more accurate, the command line window closes after 2 seconds. You'll need to have a look at the log files that are located somewhere in the lmxgui264 directory IIRC (or in the output directory, I can't remember). If they don't contain any useful info, you'll need to execute the cmdlines generated by lmxgui264 one by one to find the problem. I have to do this regularly because there's often "something wrong". You might be able to play the script in MPC or whatever, but the x264 cmdline isn't MPC ;)
Try adding ConvertToYV12() at the end of your script. This the first problem I ran into when using my own scripts without the given templates, and maybe the path to your avs or to the output file wasn't generated properly, or else (you'll need to do the steps I described above to find where the problem was).

After this month, I'll get ready for the College Entrance Exam, until June when the exam passed. From Match on I'll disappear from the Internet.
So next update may be after June.
Even though, all suggestion is welcomed!

@DarkZell666: Thank you very much for your answer. I should had read the log file, before go asking for help... Indeed, I saw in the log these:
---
StartTime:2007-02-25 07:01:11
avis [error]: unsupported input format (YUY2)
x264 [error]: could not open input file 'C:\lmx264.avs'
EndTime:2007-02-25 07:01:12
---
I have added the ConvertToYV12() function in my script and now the process has been started! But I have two critical questions to ask:
1. Is it of any importance the position/sequence of the commands in an .avs script? For example the crop function has to be before of the Lanczos4Resize or the ConvertToYV12() has to be always in the end or whatever. Should I have to follow any rules for the sequence of my functions or only the set of them is important?
2. During the encoding, I am receiving this x264's warning: "max bitrate less than average bitrate, ignored". Where did I set this max bitrate and I don't know it? How can I change that (even though it seems that is just a warning)? Again thank you ConvertToYV12() for your help.

1- The order in which you put certain filters depends on the filters themselves. First: you can only crop even numbers of pixels. If you Crop(1,2,-4,-4) for example, you'll encounter problems. Then some filters require a mod-16 resolution, or a mod-8 resolution, so you might need to resize before those filters. This is specified in avisynth's documentation (or in the filter's readme file). Also, some filters only accept YUY2() colorspace, so you'll need to add ConvertToYUY2().TheFilterThatDoesNotLikeYV12().ConvertToYV12() for example.
2- I'm never too sure about the maxbitrate warning, and it seems different from the one people usually have. I would say that your source is very compressible (anime or slow-motion source ?), and that it looks very clean once encoded, even if it's smaller than you expected. There are some threads about this problem so try searching a bit.
@leiming2006: Farewell dude, I wish you much success, work well ;) Cya later this year :D

in "rate control" page, make the "Min QP" lower may help.
by the way, the default is "10" and if this message comes out it means you set the bitrate tooooooooo high. (I often use CRF 21, it gives me not bad quality already.)

The "college entrance exam" (or "GaoKao" in Chinese) is just around the corner, any big changes are hardly added.
Advice is quite good, but it can't be done soon.
by the way, why "avs2wav" can't work here, "bepipe" is the last required (except mp4box, mkvmerge can be used instead of it) program that need .net fw. is there any suggestions?

I vaguely recall you writing about some important exams ...
If this wouldn't cause too much problem, and you still have some minutes to spare, could you make the editing of the command line more comfortable, plz?
I've had some successful encodes using the latest version of your GUI and the latest x264 667b, however it's a nightmare to manually edit the command line when adding AQ settings or dead zone settings. Maybe a longer line? Or some kind of window perhaps, where I could paste my settings into?
Good job with that GUI. Made me finally interested in x264 encoding. ;) :)

deadzone and AQ may be added in the next version.
I remember that AQ is not in all version of x264, only sharktooth's one has this option. I can use a checkbox to deal with it I think.
Editing the commandline is not recomended, but in the next version I think it's better to add a place to input other custom parameters.
At last, I can make sense of what examples you need. I'm sorry but in fact I'm not a native English speaker. Could you please explain it in simple English? Thanks.

Help me with these doubts please... But keep in mind I'm almost a total newbiee.
Could you please update the profiles with megui ones or teach how to do it? Also, could you add a delay option for audio? That's cause every little video I encode to h264/aac gets delay. I don't know about bepipe decoder (I don't know if it's a decoding problem, also I don't know if I can call bepipe a decoder), but I always have introduced ~ -150ms delay for megui (it uses ffdshow decoding, doesn't it?), then I don't get this delay. Maybe it could be AVS DirectshowSource, I'm testing yet, I never found a hint about this delay problem. Ok then, thanks in advance.
Edit.: I forgot to say, the program is randomly crashing, I'm using WXP SP3.
Edit.2: Well, I've managed to put a delay on sound with this (also could you look if my avs script is fine?):
# -----------------------------------------------------------------
# Name : Default ABatchScript Template v2
# Author : Steven van Cauter
# Movie : D:\Animes\blablabla\blablablaDVD-Rip-Episodio01.avi
# -----------------------------------------------------------------
#HERE IS WHAT I USED TO GET THE DELAY CORRECTED
DelayAudio(-0.15)
# 1) Store parameter in variable named "Clip"
Clip="blablablaDVD-Rip-Episodio01"
# 2) Set clip as DirectShowSource
DirectShowSource(Clip+".avi")
# 3) Resize to PAL square-pixel frame size
#LanczosResize(480, 280)
# 4) Convert frame rate to PAL, also adjust audio
#AssumeFPS(25, 1, true)
# 5) Restore audio sample rate to a standard rate
#SSRC(44100)
# 6)
#TextSub(Clip+".avi")
Is that right or there is another better method???
What about sound normalizing, how could I get similar megui "Increase Volume Automatically" (AutoGain) and "Improve Accuracy using 32bit & Float Computations" (ImproveAccuracy) options? Is the last option possible using BePipe? What this BePipe does anyway :( I'm so curious, I've searched but I couldn't find any thread about it, I only know it dimzon (or something like this) that created it)
Edit.3:
I have some suggestions to make too, you could make the batch file simpler and cleaner, hiding the default x264 options when they aren't changed, that should help us a lot when editing the batch file or when copying settings from Megui Sharktoot's presets. For example, --scenecut 40, -I 250 -i 25 --sar 1:1, --nr 0, --merange 16, --aq-mode 1 --aq-strength 1 --chroma-qp-offset 0, and many others... By the way, could you help me understant this: there is two x264 passes huh? Why -m, --me, -r have different values on them and 1st pass doesn't have -t at all?
Also, you could put some mux options on the more tab, for use with @mp4box.exe, for being possible to add chapters and subtitles, cause there is some files that comes with these things and we should like to keep them (in case of avi/srt or mkv/ass/srt/"txt chapter" inputs ). The only requirement should be chapters/subtitles must have the same name as input. Could you add this?
Another doubt about the way of decoding audio to encode it after. You use BePipe.exe, is this the best way (or only one) of encoding audio by command line? I mean, its like mencoder? It would be possible to use mencoder to encode video or audio, or isn't worthy?
Your applications was the best I could find so far, but I really need to know about how to correctly use delay and the other things on your software. Thanks in advance!!!
leiming2006
10th October 2008, 04:17
First, about the audio encoding. this GUI is designed originally for video encoding so the part of audio encoding is not so powerful.
If you feed it AVS scripts you can add delayaudio function in your AVS scripts; if you feed it other media you should edit the proper AVS presets (or AVS template) in the AVSInc folder.
And then, about the Bepipe. If there is other good ones I won't prefer bepipe. I have tried avs2wav but I get too many problems, like crashing or stopped after encoding though it has the feature normalizing audio.
The first pass: to increasing encoding speed this GUI give the first pass lower parameters. According to the research on POPGO forum, it seems to have no effect on quality. And the "fast" one is to make the first pass faster by the expanse of little quality decreasing.
It's not like mencoder. mencoder uses the internal decoder but bepipe depends on AVS totally.
Last, about the subtitle and chapter and the suggestion on default parameters. I'm taking them into consideration and maybe it'll come true in the future (at least I'll have a try).
Thanks for your interest about my program.

HI I like the GUi. Can I ask do you have a prefered build of x264?
I ask because I downloaded two versions of x264 1063 and 996 from http://x264.nl/ but when I went to encode with your gui they ran slow quoting me times of 100hrs +.
So I copied the current x264.exe Megui is using and put that in the leiming.exe directory in place of the other versions. And normal quick encoding is back, it will take about 15 minutes at 5.2 fps (its only a small file). So this leads me to think that certain versions or build types work better. Do you have any ideas or preference ?
Quick second question how do I get the video output to be mkv by default?

- What format is the source video ? (ie: xvid+mp3 in avi ? x264+aac in mp4 ? etc.)
- Do you have good codecs installed ? (ie: ffdshow-tryouts (http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/download.php) and Haali's Media Splitter (http://haali.cs.msu.ru/mkv/) ?)
Edit : it turns out you need to choose an item in the "AVS script" dropdown box to load your source file correctly.
You can add more AVS templates in the avsinc folder. I believe an extra one like this would also be helpful, since all the directshow-based scripts bundled with the app have convertfps=true with a specific fps value :
directshowsource(fs)
converttoyv12()
ConvertAudioTo16bit()

Hi -- Does anyone know of any good Blu-Ray presets for this GUI? Being new to x264 encoding, is there a way to specify interlaced vs. progressive encodes? Thanks.
