Which resize filter to use for 720P HDTV ---> 6000 kbps VBR MPEG2

I do a 6 pass CCE encode, 2000 kbps min, 6000 kbps average, 9000 kbps max with no filters on. Just decimate by 2 for the framerate and resize to 720x480.

Which resize filter would be best for this situation? Lanczos, bicubic, bilinear? I know that it depends a lot on what you are encoding and how you encode, but I thought that if I gave specifics on what I was encoding, and what to, with what encoder, that one resize filter might work best for that.

When you downsize or more or less upsize to the same rough sizes, Lanczos4Resize is your best bet, as it preserves most of the details, and add a nice little sharpening.

OK, that gives you 29.97fps, right? But are you sure that's the correct framerate? That is, if it's from film, then almost certainly every 5th frame is a dupe. I'd open the script in VDub(Mod) and step through it to be sure.

I prefer regular old Lanczos when downsizing.
