Getting Dolby Digital to work

I have a turtle Beach riviera sound card. I am trying to get dolby digital output to my receiver. Right now all I am getting is ProLogic. It is going out over the digital connection (optical), but it is apparently only sending out 2 channels (5 matrixed in proLogic). I have tried ffdshow's audio settings. I have tried media player classic's settings & I tried blaze dvd player. All only sentn out ProLogic. I know the file is 6 ch becuase It will tell me that when playing it media player classic. Any settings I can try or any ideas as to why this wouldn't work. :confused:

It would be a soundcard's setting. Look for spdif setup in the soundcard driver setting (or the control panel of the soundcard).

Try different programs: eg winamp to play back 5.1 ch AC3 or AAC ...

If the stream you are playing is really DD (AC3) for instance from a DVD, and you are sure that ffdshow is playing it. (I usually make sure the icon is loaded in the statyus tray and enable extended info).

Then you need to check that the AC3 codec in the codecs list of ffdshow audio configuration is listed as S/PDIF, and then it should output all AC3 sound from ffdshow via s/pdif.

it does not work. I am using ffdshow-2546 with windows media player & when I have the AC-3 decoder set to s/pdif wmp says it can't locate the codec. When I use mpc 6.4.9.0 & have the AC3 Transform filter set to SPDIF I get choppy output. The driver for the sound card is set to spdif output also. The windows sounds and other things come across fine.
