hi
when backing up some of my dvds i found several of them to use dvd9 discs while the movie would quite easy fit on a dvd5 when i get rid of the annoying trailer & extra-stuff.
the question: is there a way to just rip the the main part with all the menue stuff and burn it without using some reauthoring programs ? something like a "i tell the program the folder and it comes back withan image"-software ???
thx

DVD Shrink - though you set it to "reauthor" mode it's not truly reauthoring. If you select only the main movie file to burn, you'll end up with a DVD without menus or extras and it will play straight to the movie.

hmm...
if i tell dvd shrink to use the no-compression mode it lets me know that those 3.433mb of video and 270mb audio will make 5.592mb of data when finished...
.... can anyone explain this pretty weird thing ?
thx

Are you sure you JUST selected the Main Movie as CWR03 suggests?
Sounds like you are keeping all the menus/extras still ..hence why shrink reports 5.592mb
To select Main Movie only - Open Shrink / Open Disc / Select Drive / Re-Author ,now drag Main Movie (title 1) across into the opposite pane, then adjust the settings in Compression Settings to remove unwanted audio/subtitles.

DVD Shrink Main Movie Only Guide (http://dvdshrink.info/re-author-v3beta5.php)...if you need a little more help. This tutorial may shed a bit more light on Gehenna's comment about stripping out unwanted audio streams and subs.
Until you get the hang of Shrink, it might be a good idea to preview your "Shrinked" files before sending them to the burner. A time, or two, I've grabbed the director's cut when it wasn't what I really wanted. While it's not the only way to do this, of course, I like to mount my file in a Daemon Tools virtual drive for previewing. Works, for me.

ok
... combined with your hints i found a way to do my thing...
but first: some little misunderstanding... i had about 4gb of moviedata (audio+video) + some Gb useless trailers & stuff...
wanted to have the mainmovie+this mainmenu... not only the movie... that would have been an easy one i know how to do myselfe....
the solution i can up using your idea (->dvd-shrink...)
- i just set the useless stuff in the compression-menu to "still images"... reduced their size quite much
effect: i got the main movie
i got these menues i wanted to have on the final dvd
i got rid of the useless ballast
everything fine...
thx for helping

Hi!i just set the useless stuff in the compression-menu to "still images"... reduced their size quite muchWhat happens if you select one of the "extras" that you've changed to a still image? Does it stay on screen for as long as the audio of that "extra" would have originally played, or does it immediately return to the menu?

seems like the "picture" (you can select them in dvdshrink) stays for the time the slected extra was supposed to run...

So, much better would be to use VobBlanker for the job, and "Blank" out the stuff you don't want to keep.

@rackham
For future reference, if you are interested in a commercial alternative, probably the simplest way to accomplish a "menu and movie only" combination is to use DVD95Copy(Pro), my personal favorite for such work. You simply uncheck those items/Titles that you don't want to keep...

When i want to fit a DVD9 movie to DVD5 sometimes if the main movie is say 4GB and Extras 2GB.
Then i use DVD Decrypter in IFO Mode and select the chapters i want to keep, this then rips the movie only but with the chapters and menus, i think if you click on the extras within the ripped movie nothing will happen, but the main movie etc works fine.
I now seem to use Nero7 for a lot of my DVD stuff, as it does a lot of jobs.:p
