Anyone, I made MeGUI full essentials(similiar to former ChronoCross MeGUI Essentials packet), which include all necessary components.

Where can I upload MeGUI Full?

Which download service support resume for download?

Rapidshare doesn't support resume!

BTW, I use DAP for download content.

there is no need to make an essentials pack. The auto updater does the job perfectly. That's why I discontinued it. So don't upload it anywhere as it would be bad to have it floating around as we cannot provide support for it. Thank you.

Actually I can't get the auotupdater to instlall the nero files correctly for AAC encoding to mux with MP4. With 5.1 sources I get the error "the encoder is missing or configured wrong".

ChronoCross

then this is a problem with the way you are doing things. not a result of the updater. make sure that you correctly selected the right version of the NEW encoder. megui no longer uses neroraw. it used their free encoder.

KRP:

You are aware you are that you are violating Nero's license right? Since you are distrubiting NeroAacEnc.exe with the GPL included can you please provide me a copy of the source-code (as required by the GPL at someones request).

@KRP

I told you not to post this. Your violating copyright laws. Winamp is a NON DISTRIBUTABLE PACKAGE. Meaning it is illegal for you to distribute.

I have reported your post to the modderation team.

Since when does distributing a binary alongside GPL software automatically give it GPL status? Nothing in the pack denotes anything other than MeGUI as being GPL (which is bad given how much other GPL soft is in there). Anyway, you'll note MeGUI destributes the encoder through autoupdate (or via browsing the update site), so KRP isn't the only one violating the license.

The winamp part is all KRP though.

KRP:

No, I am not aware of that. I built Full package of MeGUI because one or two members told me that I am not contributing anything to the Doom9 society. ChronoCross, you are not right at all.

Anyway, you'll note MeGUI destributes the encoder through autoupdate (or via browsing the update site), so KRP isn't the only one violating the license.

Yes, you are right. Nero AAC encoder is freeware product, so I can't violate anything.

remove your package. It contributes nothing other than problems for the megui team as they will have to sort out issues your poorly put together package causes. It is also violation of Winamp's AUP. It is non-redistributable, hence the reason it's not in the auto-updater.

That's not what I meant.

Nero AG licenses you to use this software package for personal non-commercial and/or technology-evaluation purposes.

This License does not provide any rights to reproduce and/or distribute this software package in whole or in any part.

No one but nero is permitted to distribute neroaacenc without written authority, same as winamp, and as much as I detest EULAs, if you follow one you should follow the other. Make update open a browser window to the download page, for instance.

Poorly, poorly, I can't believe what are you saying!!! Everything works in my package. I know that you are against me long ago, but even you MUST confess that I finally made something useful.

While I appreciate that you are making an effort to help at Doom9, I cannot see the point of this package. Making it is really a step backwards, because it provides a half-solution (it's missing the AviSynth plugins, and some tools, like mencoder, aren't being registered with MeGUI) for something that MeGUI already does much better, itself. What is it that you hope to achieve with this package? Why is it better than what MeGUI already does?

ChronoCross
18th June 2006, 02:53
Besides copying my idea (and the fact that we no longer need an essentials package) the following are done Poorly:

1) everything is installed in root.
2) no start menu shortcuts.
3) no uninstaller
4) contains outdated neroraw
5) source code in root and unverifyable as to the source

Additionaly violating the EULA's of both nero and winamp.

Nero in that you didn't include their license and help file. Winamp in that your not supposed to redistribute their stuff.

If you want to help then do something that is actually needed. Not something that is gonna cause additional problems for anyone who provides support for megui as well as the devs that will have to track down problems caused by your installer.

Please remove the link for the installer and discontinue your uneeded efforts

Thank you, berrinam. I appreciate that. I didn't include AviSynth plugins, because AVS plugins are not my concern. Users know that MeGUI needs AviSynth 2.56a, so that's why I won't include plugins for AviSynth.

I am not saying that my package is best, but this package have all necessary components. Start menu folder is unnecessary, and uninstaller also.

KRP:

please read the license agreement before you download Nero.

http://www.nero.com/nerodigital/eng/down-ndaudio.php

This License does not provide any rights to reproduce and/or distribute this software package in whole or in any part.
What part didn't you understand?

Uninstaller isn't necessary? Why not? I have to manually delete the folder and hope it doesn't leave crap in my registry? It's very user unfriendly.

Since when does distributing a binary alongside GPL software automatically give it GPL status?
If you please can explain me how I can make the distinction between non-GPL binaries and GPL binaries when they are in the same folder and all there is, is a gpl.txt. People need to be more careful than this. It's completely disrectpectful towards Nero.

I think that if people are also going to direct the big guns towards KRP for breaking the Licence Agreement, they should point them towards the owner of the meGUI autoupdate server - but who would do, or would want to do that?
We need a little consistancy methinks ;)

If it distributes Nero or Winamp binaries I will make no problems of objecting to that. It's just that I haven't tried it.

FYI, an official request for a distribution license of the nero aac encoder as part of megui's autoupdater has been filed.. so there's no need for flame.
However, I share the concerns voiced here. With the autoupdater fully integrated, it makes little sense to create additional packages. In fact, are you willing to support them? At this point, we have a mechanism in place that ensures that only supported versions of the tools required are installed and that everything works out as it should setup wise. Therefore, if it's a problem that stems from using a third party distribution or doing the setup manually, it is the user's fault if things don't work and unreasonable to expect that any of the megui programmers provide help.. you are free to use whichever setup you want, but the autosetup was specifically created to ensure people only use supported components and to reduce the number of support requests.

Between bob0r's installer and Chronocross rar archive for those who want to configure everything manually, I don't see the need for yet another package, and certainly not to support it. Why I can't prevent you from redistributing free software, I have no obligation to support it either and I do not wish megui to be associated with your less than stellar reputation around these parts.

Has it also been granted?

And this is not flaming. Copyright and license violations should be taken very seriously in a community that depends very much on these things being respected.

KRP striked for rule 16, that gives you one more strike and you are banned (account deletion?)
