I have been experiencing hard locks when playing DVDs on my computer. I have tried Media Player Classic+PureVideo and Nero Showtime. Both experience random hard locks.

I have tried mplayer (SVN build from yesterday) in Gentoo and it works without any problems.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm thinking about giving DScaler a shot, but seeing as 2 different players already failed I am doubtful that it would work. Playing full length movies encoded to mp4 (AVC/AAC) with ffdshow+haali+media player classic works perfectly.

Any suggestions?

Nope, but seeing as there is the new 1.0pre8 build finally, I think I will. Thanks for bringing that up.

MPlayer crashed too, but it didn't take the whole system with it, just the player.

Practically anything that can blue screen, hang, or reboot an xp system is driver or bios related, so if you already have the latest you either need to complain or swap out your dvd drive. If not, definitely try to find them.

I have all the latest drivers, and my DVD drive works great playing DVD's in Linux, and it also rips+burns DVD's fine.

I'm going to try ripping to an image, mounting it, then playing and see how that works out.

Okay, playing from a ripped image mounted with Nero ImageDrive crashes also. There has to be a driver problem somewhere. I think it has to be a driver problem, but where? All my games play fine, and full length movies in other formats do too.
