I've got a problem with getting WMV's to render on Media Player Classic.
files fail to render. I've had this issue before under the same
circumstances.
That is, When I reinstall windows I've got to work to make them render,
but I
still don't know HOW i get them to render. I play with the settings
until they
work. I've got all the codecs installed. I've check that they render
under
Windows Media Player, and they do. They just fail to render under
Classic.

This one is stumping me, and has since the beginning.

Thanks...

If they're DRM'ed they wont render in MPC.

Well, it's something simple if that helps. I'm no expert, but if you go the MPC options (O) > external filters > add filter

then add the filters you need. I use ffdshow (libavcodec.dll) for wmv 1/7 and 8. Which I set from inside ffdshow (under codecs) On this page there is a place on the right of the screen with 3 radio buttons that reads "prefer, block, set merit" note that.

I use WMVideo decoder DMO for wmv 9 (I hate this codec because it's cpu intensive, but good luck trying to get rid of it)

You might need to change the "merit" of a filter (the favor windows shows towards a dll) by simply typing a 6 where the 4 or 2 or 8 is (see below) or choose prefer. If there are other digits besides zero don't worry about them, the 3rd digit in is what you change.

00200000 This filter will never be used
00400000 It's unlikely to use this filter
00600000 This is the normal setting
00800000 It will always try to use this filter.

There are also lots of tools that come with MPC you should play with.
