Why is DivX 6.2.5 much slower than v6.2.2?

I installed DivX v6.2.5 codec today, V6.2.5 was encording about 2 times slower than V6.2.2 under the same settings with v6.2.2.

settings were insane quality, de-inter, 1st-pass

Why is V6.2.5 slower? or is it just me?

It definately should not be - give me your CLI string from the settings tab so I can see your exact settings. Also give me your CPU brand/model.

I use #1 DVD ripper to encode.

I have Pentium-4 3Ghz, Asus p4p800SE

Under the #1 DVD ripper, I use Divx 6.2.2 two-logical CPU's. And I use SSE2 optimization but I never noticed the quality difference as well as speed. But i keep the SSE2 setting just in case.

Insane quality, 1st pass, 1000kbps, de-interlaced, Extreme-noise reduction, H263 quantization optimized ---> all results in 12 to 13 fps (frames per second).

< Under 6.2.5 setting >
Encording preset is 10,
Insane quality, 1st pass, 1000kbps, de-interlaced, Extreme-noise reduction, H263 quantization optimized ---> all results in 6.5 fps (frames per second).

I don't mind 12 fps, but 6.5 fps is uneasy for me.
Now, I gave up using on 6.2.5, I am going back to use 6.2.2 now.

My comment on v6.2.5, Encoding setting 10 uses 2-pass regardless of its saying 1st-pass.


By the way:
I only installed, 6.2.5 codec and DivX YV12 pass through, the rest is just to me, for DivX player for a computer.

I rebooted my computer once or twice before I tried the newly installed codec whether it was 6.2.2 or 6.2.5

Maybe I will uninstall the 6.2.2 completely before install 6.2.5 and hunt all the DivX related registry and do some damage

Looks like a resize issue. We've fixed it an I'm hoping to get new binaries up on the website in a couple of hours. The new encoder should be build 6.2.5.17 (can be seen from the 'About' box of the VFW codec).

I would recommend getting a better connection if the size hurts you. even at that size it'll only take about 20 mins to download. I remember the days of 28.8, it may not be fun but you just deal with it.

Some people not only have slow connections, they pay-per-packet. Please keep in mind that this is a global forum, and that not everyone has the same number of network options, nor similar cost structures.
