View Full Version : ASF Error Using VDub Mpeg-2 1.6.15

I tried editing a video WMV using VDub Mpeg-2 and i get this error after it loaded.

Couldnt locate deompressor for format 'WMV2' (unknown)

VDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatitble codec to decompress video. Directshow codecs, such as those used by windows media player are not suitable.

Can anyone try to help me with this? Thanks a lot.

To open this file in VirtualDub-MPEG2, you would need a VFW compatible codec for Windows Media Video V8. Unfortunately I don't think any such thing exists. :(

what if i upgrade it to wmp10, would it make a difference?

Nope. I have WMP10, and it doesn't make any difference.

Well, if you don't plan on doing any reencoding, you could use ffdshow's vfw interface which comes with a (incomplete) wmv2 decoder. This will allow you to use VD-MP2 to cut and direct stream copy the file.
