I'm planning on backing up a bunch of TV series that I have on DVD onto my HTPC as avis and I was wondering what do most people do?
Do they just pick a certain size depending on the length of the episode? (175 for 30min, 350 for 1hr) or do they choose the dimensions or what?
Thanks
(note: I'll be using AutoGK)

If you use AutoGK, and since a specific file size won't matter for your purposes, do a few test encodes and play with the target quality percentage as well as the resolution. Find settings that suit your likes and stick with that.

If you haven't found them, yet, there are two main sources for AGK guides. One is Doom9's AGK Guide (http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/autogk.htm), the other is Manono's excellent guide that comes packaged with AGK.
Both are loaded with screenshots and tons of relevant information.

yeah I used that link when I first started ripping my DVDs, and I've actually done some of my TV shows and I always did just the 350meg predefined size, but for no real reason. And now when I look at the videos they all have different dimensions, and I was just wondering what the SOP was concerning TV show rilpping.
Thanks

AutoGK will decide on a resolution in order to best utilize the preset filesize. You can lock in a resolution using Advanced Settings if the varying size bothers you, and using the target quality percentage (once you find one that suits you) will then optimize your preset resolution by changing the final file size.
I've found that locking in both the file size and the resolution (especially if the resolution is too big) will hamper the abilities of AutoGK and the quality of the end product.
