I've been trying to convert PAL to NTSL video (MPEG2) and stumbled on information about Pulldown flags that can be changed without re-incoding to conver frame reates. Not having found enough info I have the following quesions:

-Having pulldow flags in mpeg2, how do I know what is the real framerate and if the actual video is interlaced? Is there a reliable application that can tell me what is happening in my MPEG2 file and tell me what the Pulldown flags are doing?

-Is there a comprehensive FAQ that can explain how the Pulldown flags work?

-Does playing with Pulldown flags ever affect DVD compliance?

-If DGpulldown 1.0.7 can perform 25fps (or 24) to 29.97 conversion, why can't it do the reverse? Does the original 25fps have to be progressive or it can be interlaced?

PS: I am aware of the resolution differences between PAL and NTSC and have that figured out, just need help with frame rates and pulldown flags.

When you sign up, there's a clause that states we can object to any chosen username without so much as giving a reason. This is hardly invoked but it appears in this case, neuron2 feels uncomfortable with a nick that is his with a postfix so please pm me within 48 hours with a suggestion for a new nick (use the search by user to check if a given username is not already in use.. it's not perfectly accurate since this doesn't catch registered accounts that have never been used to make a post, but it's better than nothing at all) and I'll change it accordingly. Thank you for your cooperation.
