Ripping scratched DVD

Please this thread is not about any protection scheme.
Neither about using gels or toothpaste.

I was wondering if there were some tool to scan intelligently the disk ( it doesn't need even to do DeCSS ) just read LBA sector in the DVD and fast skip over the damaged areas, skipping mybe 10 sectors, then 100 if the error continues, and then more, so as to build a map of damaged sectors, and then a psl2 file with has which sector to skip so as to feed to dvd decrypter.

The idea seems pretty simple, and I did it manually with a simple dvd sector viewer, so I can skip 100 sectors on more over the scratched area.

Because even if you set 0 hadware error retries and 0 software error retries it becomes slow if there is a great circular scratch.

I was searching around and I didn't find such tool.
The closest thing is a little german app that build ans ISO image with a map of good sectors read so far.
But the idea seems interesting to me.

After that I did a FixVTS (maybe not neet to) and then cut the corrupted mpeg2 stream part with the great tool VobBlanker.

What do you think about it ?

It's too slow retrying if the scratch is long. Either DVDFab or DVDDecrypter.

Just to be certain that we are talking about the same program(s)I am referring specifically to (freeware) DVDFab Decrypter, which is different than BOTH DVDFab and DVD Decrypter...

Have you tried DVD FAB Decrypter freeware version with a circular scratched DVD ?
I mean with a lot of bad sectors.

It's SLOOOOOOW.

You need to fast skip them.

Of course you'll lose that video part.
