View Full Version : Possible Differences Between RME output VS DVD-RB output

Hi, I did some tests with Matrixes, using CCE 2.70.2.06
on DVD "Rio Bravo"
Compression 73%
HIGH/LOW/TYPICAL Bitrates: 5,014/786/4,073 Kb
movie AR 16:9
I used CCE default and Avamat6.
Using RME I didn't notice much blocks in the image not in CCE default and not in Avamat6, After encoding same segmant. How ever after encoding the full DVD with RB, they were more blocks on same image that weren't before, especially on avamat6.
can it be that RME Reencode the movie but without compression? so the outcome is better?
Just wnted to know why the differences,
I will upload some picture in the morning to show the differences

as promissed here are the images
top avamat6 using RME,
bottom avanat6 after full dvd encoding

if you look at John wayne chinn bottom image, you can see the blocks, which are less visible in the upper image.

i noticed that RME + CCE, the output is smoother than encoding it with Rebuilder only. this might explain why you see the output from RME being less blocky.
i find that HC with RME is normal, though.

If you send the same video with the same matrix to CCE with the same settings you will get (bit-for-bit) exactly the same output every time. If it looks different that means something is not the same... what bitrate is RME using? Is it really encoding or just giving you an example?

It's really encoding and it's encoding by the bitrate it shows on the right side of RME software, and the result indeed is somewhat smootther then with DVD-RB -CCE
I don't know what can be wrong if at all

:sly: Uh... As I said -- the same settings give the same result. If it looks smoother, it's probably because the bitrate is higher -- of course if DVD-RB used a higher bitrate your output wouldn't fit on a DVD...

As jdobbs already said: same settings same result.
In fact you can't compare the outputs as RME does a OPV encoding with higher bitrates compared with RB ecl as I've posted here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=717760#post717760).
I'm not sure whether Rockas has changed this behaviour in the meantime, I guess not because we was too busy. ;)

10x Rippraff i just red your post about it. Well now I know to expect different results when finall encoding is done, I can still compare matrixes to each other though.... deciding what would be best for me. I hope it'll be fix in next RME update.
