My dvd drive started running slowly all of a sudden. [Archive]

i have a Memorex DVD16+/-DL4RWID2 Drive
the programes i use are dvd decrypter, dvd shrink, nero 6, itunes.
the drive use to read at 12x and write at 8x now it only reads at 2.1x and write at 1.2x -1.4x. i have tryed uninstalling and reinstalling dvddecrypter and nero 6. also i have tryed a system restore and a regestry restore none of this worked the only way i know how to fix it is to wipe the drive and reinstalle windows xp. so if anyone can help let me know thanks.

Sounds like your drive has reverted from DMA to PIO mode. Check in the Device Manager (via the Control Panel>>System>>Hardware>>Device Manager) to see if this is the case. If so, you simply have to remove the applicable IDE channel (Click on "IDE...Controllers") and let your computer reset it to DMA as follows:
Right click on the pertinent channel in Device Manager
Click on uninstall
Reboot
After rebooting go back to Device Manager and change the setting to DMA if available.
