Newbie question about ffdshow audio decoding

I can't get ffdshow audio decoding to work, except for DVD's. If I open an avi file, it won't work and the audio decoding tray icon does not appear. I've looked through the settings but I guess I don't know what to look for. The video decoding works for any video files.

Maybe you haven´t set ffdshow audio decoder to handle the avi´s audio stream type.
Go to your ffdshow menu i.e. Programs --> ffdshow --> Audio decoder configuration. There, go to Codec and select the audio type that u want ffdshow to decode.
