View Full Version : Drive not reading the disc.

Hi! :)

I am trying to decrypt Alias Season 3 R2, but I have a problem.

My drive won't even recognize the DVD. Nothing happens when I put it in my drive.

Any ideas? I am using DVD-Decrypter.

My drive is a PLEXTOR PX-755A


I hope someone can help me :) Thanks in advance.

You drive may simply need a firmware update, or you may have a badly pressed disc that can't be recognized by your drive. Try DVD Shrink for reading the disc. What region is your drive set to?

There is no new firmware. My drive is set to region 2, and I can read other R2 original discs.

As has been posted elsewhere, on this site, Series DVD's do not seem to have the quality control we have come to expect from feature films. Will your drive recognize any of the DVDs in the series?

Yup, it is working in my standalone.

I got one of the discs working in my drive, but now it isn't working anymore :(

Guess I will have to try again tomorrow...going to bed now :)

Sounds like the beginning of a hardware problem.

You might want to try running a DVD/CD cleaning disc on the drive (burner?) that's not able to read the disc. Maxell makes one that retails for approximately $10US...

I don't think so. My burner is only 2 months old, and every other disc I have tried have worked. I will try them again later today. Will post my "results" :)

THIS is weird.... The discs are working without problems now. Already decrypted 2 of them. Thanks for the help :)

Setarip's suggestion that you may be having an intermittent drive failure is quite possible. Erratic behaviour is one of the first indicators. It would have been a good idea to have tried these discs in another DVD drive to verify whether the problem was the discs, or if the drive, was at fault. The only consolation is, you can now rip your discs. If the problem occurs again, I would see about an RMA.
