I might be trying to upsample some stereo soundtracks from a series of shorts clips and was wondering which one of these two upsampling methods would you use and why. Also, there are way too many threads about this, could you recommend me decent point-and-click solutions for either of them that are either freeware or cheap?

Hi Chainmax,

To me knowledge there are no simple "point and click" solutions for etiehr DPLIIx or Neo:6. About the closest you can get is one of the graphedit methods mentioned in the forum here. Graphedit is kinda clunky to use, and not very user friendly, but it is free.

Time to learn some GraphEdit then :). Anyway, which upsampling method would you prefer and why?

Well I have to admit that I prefer the V.I VST plugin I created a couple of years ago. I use it for all my upmixing. If I had to choose between DPLII or Neo:6, I'd probably go for DPLII for movies or Neo:6 for music. I don't have much experience with the latter, but it seemed to be slightly better for music when I tested the version that came with my soundcard. I've never been impressed with DPLII's music mode. I have been fairly happy with what DPLII does for TV programs on my home theatre system.

If you want to find out more about V.I, go to the following link and scroll down to the V.I-based methods section. This will give you several guides. http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=555803#post555803

By the way, it is possible to use V.I plugins in graphedit by using a VST-to-DirectX wrapper program on the three 2-channel V.I plugins. I even got it to run three at once writing 3 2-channel files that I could then combine to a 6-channel file using other software. I haven't had time to write a guide for it yet because for one thing, Graphedit doesn't easily save all the settings, and for another, I've been busy developing a standalone version of V.I that will hopefully be ready by the summer.

Regards,
Steve.
