Hi

I am experiencing a strange audio problem.

I am editing some video in sony vegas and when I render the video from the program to an avi file everything is fine except the audio range. The soft sounds are way to boosted so there is little to no difference between loud and soft sounds.

the strange thing is that it's only a problem when I play the file in media player, media player classic and winamp, but when I play the .avi file in goldwave it's all fine, and when i burn a DVD with the file it's all fine.

Any suggestions?

thx

Are you sure you are not dealing with Dolby Digital? This is the standard audio format for DVD, and takes some practice to get the levels right.

yes, I'm sure. The audio is in .wav format

Hi!

It sounds like your player programs are using a different codec/filter than the one being used by GoldWave...

well, what's to do about that and how do I confirm it?

Try to play the file with GraphEdit, if sound boosted check the audio filters involved and the settings.

You probably have DRC turned on for pcm in either ffdshow or ac3filter. Shut that off, and the problem should go away.
