Anyone having problems with Underworld Evolution? Dvd Fab keeps locking up before even starting and I have the current version of dvd fab released May 26. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, it is a Sony release.

I did a successful backup using the PGCedit Wizard. You have to delete VTS 26 and 27 using PGCedit. Or in my case, DVD Decrypter does not even highlight VTS 27 on the initial rip. But VTS 26 still had NAV PAK errors. Load the rip into PGCedit and choose DVD > Delete Last VTS in DVD and it will take of the rest, save DVD and load into Shrink etc.

Yes, Dvd Decrypter (and friends) worked well. It was just like When A Stranger Calls so as long as the instructions are followed, there is no problem.

This movie has ARccOS protection, so it doesn't rip with pre-arcos methods. dvddecrypter+pgcedit with the psl2 plugin seems to be working. See the guide:

As for dvdshrink, personally I wouldn't burn time on anything like that, now that DL blanks can be had for a reasonable price.

Apparently I had some sort of internal error with DvD Fab. I had to leave for a while earlier so I defragged the computer; when I returned DvD Fab ripped it with no problem. I guess I should have tried more options before I posted since it wasn't giving the usual response when sony inserts new copy protection and a rip fails.

I have no idea, I let the smart guys figure that stuff out. But I can follow directions. :)

Anyway, it's not really manual, you just load the DVD click delete last vts and the progam does the rest. Save it and encode it by whatever means you want.

At this stage, it is a manual operation but it's not too hard. Just a bit scary to confront these error messages for the first time.

What should I set the output to if I want to end up with just one ISO file that I can burn to disk later?

I don't know what I did put DVDFab now creates 1 iso instead of several, like it did for my last few backups...

I'm curious to know if anyone is having success with the widescreen version of the movie. DVDfab does not work AT ALL, and DVD decrypter (both with and without pgcedit) encounter many, MANY unreadable sector errors in VTS_01_2. I'm at current still trying to get my copy backed up using dvd decrypter, and its currently at....186 read errors and still going up; stuck on the same aforementioned vts right now.

No, no it does not. I tried that damn program, and it gives some stupid message wanting me to send them my email address when I try to rip the movie. It's crap.

And as an update to my problem, I finally got pgcedit to work somewhat, and I followed the steps listed in the method listed by another poster to get a clean rip that way, however the problem now is that the resulting movie is far higher in size than what I specified it to be. The movie ended up being 1.05 gigs, when I told it I wanted a movie around 695 ~ 700 megabytes (single cd size).

Anyone know why it might be doing that?

Maybe you just can't compress it that far? If you want that size, go for MPEG-4 encoding.

DVDFab Decrypter 2.9.7.9, AnyDVD 6.0.0.4 (and I believe 5.9.6.3) and DVD43 Version: 3.9.0 all go thru this movie with no problems... if you are having a problem and the 1000's of other who have successfully backup this movie are not....something else might be going on wrong on your end! Maybe you have a bad drive... maybe your DVD needs to be cleaned... maybe a bad driver...maybe Windows needs to be rebooted but to go around saying a great program that is absolutely free to everyone is crap because you can get it to work.

If everyones saying it works (DVDFab Decrypter 2.9.7.9) and you are saying it doesn't.... chances are it does and something is wrong on your end.

It works perfectly for ripping the film. The ISO created plays flawlessly on my PC, however...


I have tried using the PGC method described in this thread and it doesn't work.
When I try to burn the image to disk using DVD Decrypter I get an error saying that the image isn't authored/compiled correctly (or is not the correct structure or something)...

I have also tried doing the following:

Rip with DVDFab
Run Fab's output through DVDShrink
Burn the image to DVD+R DL with IMGBurn

I still get the same error.
Rather than making another coaster, can someone walk me through getting this on disc?

I just restarted from scratch.
Here's exactly what I've done:

Rip with DVDFab. Settings are as follows:

Remove all the restrictin of DVD - checked
Write Speed - Recommended, Ask before writing - checked
Write type of DVD-R media - Packet Writing
Enable Double Layer Burning - checked
Overwrite RW Media - checked
Set booktype to DVD-ROM - unchecked


I choose DVD Folder as my output method.
I end up with a folder entitled " disk1 ".
It contains a Video_TS and Audio_TS folder...

Next, I run the file through DVDShrink.
Using default settings, I only change the target size in the Edit > Preferences menu. (from DVD5 to DVD9).
I save the ISO to my hard drive.

I then open ImgBurn, click the "burn" button and get the following error:


Optimal L1 Data Zone Start LBA: None Found! (VTS_01)
This image has not been mastered correctly for burning onto double layer (OTP Track Path) disc.
None of the cells meet the 'DVD-Video specification' criteria for a potential layer break position.
Do you want to continue anyway?


At this point I click no. Clicking yes only makes me a coaster for my drink after about 19%...

Like I said before, I get the same error with either method I try.

To update again, I tried a second encode using Autogk this time, and it finally got the file size right (696 megs). Why it worked, I have no clue. I can only assume autogk's habit of removing the black bars has something to do with it.

Speaking of which, is there a way to tell Autogk to -not- remove the black bars on widescreen movies?

Also, if anyone knows why regular Gordian Knot might not be working for getting the file size right, I'd like some help with that. If Autogk can do it, then I can only assume Gordian can; it's just that for some reason I may need to configure something differently perhaps?

We seem to be having completely opposite results. DVDFab does not work for me in any capacity. I have tried using multiple versions of that program now, to no avail. But, thankfully, the pgcedit method -did- work for me, and I now have a working burn of the movie. The only glitch left to be worked out now is the filesize, which is probably just something with gordian knot itself I need to figure out.

When I try to burn the image to disk using DVD Decrypter I get an error saying that the image isn't authored/compiled correctly (or is not the correct structure or something)...Here's my DVD Decrypter log from the firstpass using the PGCEdit Wizard:If possible, would you please post the log from when you tried to use DVD Decrypter to BURN the .ISO image file?

Can DVDFab just make a 1:1 ISO Like DVDDecrypter does... I can't seem to find that option :(

..... Thought my DVD-ROM was busted until i saw this thread lol.

I tryed this movie once with DVDfab (It ripped files and I selected the .ifo) and AutoGK .. out of sync :(

Platinum is ripping to an ISO now (Enabled Dual Layer.. heh). Will I be able to use this .iso with D-Tools and DVD Decrypter without error (sync issues)? ... This is what I have been doing for years.. Just making .isos of every DVD that comes my way so I can rip to whatever format I feel like at any time.

Sigh ... no mater what I do .. AnyDVD+DVDdec or DVDfab Autogk outputs slightly out of sync sound and very out of sync subs

i dont know how to explain it but i tried everything and nothing worked, then i tried to use dvdfab decrypter one last time and i did not get the error we need to shut down message. it backed it up just fine. ran it through shrink and image burner. now i have my backup 8-)

Chances are that some time between your first DVDFab Decrypter try and this successful one, you rebooted your system and "cured what ailed it"...

When I first ran DVD Fab it would crash with that same error you were getting... but the 2nd time around it would work. I had to repeat this 3 times to get a usable backup. The first backup had big blocks of colors all through it... 2nd backup had sound about 80 (yes 80) seconds off, 3rd backup worked flawlessly. Seems kind of flakey, but at least it finally worked. :)

DVD Fab is great, but you must NOT run DVD43 or AnyDVD
in the background. Also it is always a good idea to reboot
before starting DVD Fab.

I backup post 2005 dvds with DVD Fab. On rare occasions
I use either VobBlaster or IfoEdit to clean VOBs / IFOs.
Then I use DVD Shrink next to shrink to 4.3GB, followed
by burning with DVD Decrypter. So far so good.
And many thanks to this forum for its expertize.

i am trying to back up the widescreen version of underworld:evolution. my problem is that im only able to back up the previews and the extra features. i use the newest pgcedit wizard version, and the last version of dvd decrypter. the file size when i bring it in dvd shrink is only a little bit over 3,000 mb. the movie itself is completely left out. anyone have a suggestion?

I haven't had a problem with ripping the movie but I am having a problem with getting the audio. I ripped it using DVDFab Decryptor. I only want the main movie though because I am putting it on a dvd with the first Underworld. When I use DVD2AVI to get my audio from the main movie it only gives me about the first 30 minutes. Anybody have any ideas what could be causing it?
