I've haven't messed with Avisynth for about a year, but I'm about to restart my massive SVHS-to-DVD conversion project. The stickies are a little dated, so I have to ask.

What is the recommended version Avisynth these days? (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=57023)

Should I just stick with the older v.2.5.5 which is what I was using before (I think)? (I guess the latest release version is actually v.2.5.6a now, right?) Or should I start out with one of the newer alpha versions?

My advice is go with the latest stable version, which is 2.5.6a.

2.5.6a should work fine. 2.5.7 mostly has minor bugfixes and caching improvements for complex scripts.

Only Tritical's special builds of 2.5.7 have a different cache. It is deliberatly very conservative with memory usage.

The standard 2.5.7 release are bug fix only releases (well a few small 2.6 features slipped in :D ) The current Alpha 2 release has a special diagnostic build of the installer. The Alpha 3 release has some logging code to help track some COM errors. Both are quite stable.

Run with 2.5.6a, if you find any problems check the latest 2.5.7 thread to see if it is a reported problem, if it is install 2.5.7
