High Definition in The Netherlands (for a laugh)

Prepare for something really tragic.

After America and Japan have had High Definition for years, Europe started to wonder if their citizens would like to have HD too. The UK and Germany already seem to have successful HD services on satellite, and now, The Netherlands get HD. On cable.

I'll cut the crap about Samsung and Philips not being able to get their decoders on the market in time. That is also very sad. Samsung seems to be -just- going to make it, getting some decoders to the market before the WC starts (which will be broadcasted in HD). Philips is not going to make it at all! I am of course not using any official decoder, so I can watch HD. Well, I should be able to.

Film1, a Dutch PayTV movie channel, started broadcasting High-Def movies today or yesterday. They are not broadcasting 24/7 (yet), so you have to look at their website now and then to see when they broadcast.

Now, if I'm not mistaken, the first movie is right now being broadcasted - sort of. Alexander. Prepare for what you've all been waiting for:

The text says this:

Below that, you see, that's right, Dutch subtitles. I've been watching this screen for over half an hour now. The subtitles work nicely, the audio is clear, but how tragic could it be: THERE IS NO IMAGE!

High-Definition subtitles, that's what we have all been waiting for! Aaargh!

1280x720? Similar to the almost-HD we get in Australia (as far as resolution goes. We have a picture ;p)

Now, if I'm not mistaken, the first movie is right now being broadcasted - sort of. Alexander...THERE IS NO IMAGE!(Just kidding) Considering the particular movie, you're likely better off watching the static image ;>}

No, this is not the cheap 1280*1080i, this is 1280*720p with 50 full frames per second. Okay, most movies are recorded at 24 frames per second anyway, get a speed up to 25 and then they use a frame doubler.. So that doesn't make much sense.. But I could live with it..

But now it works, I'm getting School Ties in HD now. Guess what? This time the subtitles don't work. But that's less of a problem.

Funny, they forgot turning on the encryption :D.
