hi!

is it possible to have 2 different version of xvid codec installed so that they dont overwrite ?

Sure. One in SysWOW64 and the other in system32. For versions of windows other than x64. I don't think so, at least not without modifiying one of the filters.

xvid.ax doesn't have to be in system32 or even sysWOW, you can keep it anywhere. Its name doesn't have to be xvid.ax either, you can rename it.

But only one will be registered and have priority anyway....

What I meant was that under x64 you can register a 32bit and 64bit version of the same filter. But that as far as I know to register more than one copy on other versions of windows you would need to modify one first.

Well with a 32bit and a 64bit build you can get playback in 32bit and 64bit players. Two 32bit or two 64bit copies though? I can't see a point either.

hi
the problem is that i want to capture with dscaler and that will only work with xvid 1.0.2
but for playback and use with vdub i want to use newer xvid..
in what way would i need to modify so i can have both?

As I have observed Fairuse Wizard operate, it appears to unpack a "private" version of Xvid and run it out of the FUW directory, and then delete/remove it again when it's over.

I post this only to suggest that it should be possible, though I don't know how FUW works its magic...

So basically you don't want 2 xvid.ax's, you want two xvidvfw.dll's?
You could try putting 1.0.2's dll's in dscaler's directory. Works with VDub.

that actually did work
i registered the newer ones with windows and then copied the older dll's to dcaler directory and its using them instead

you can also add a line to your registry:
vidc.xivd = oldxvid.dll

then it will be in all VFW programs :cool:

xvid.ax is just the directshow decoder
