this is not really a problem, but more like a nuisance. i don't know if anyone has noticed this interesting phenomenon:

1. i'm using DVD-RB Pro 1.09.3 which was configured without AutoQMatEnc. projects (*.RBD files) have been retained and saved in the past.

2. to test out AQM, i have inserted the proper path in REBUILDER.INI under [paths]:

[Paths]
AutoQMatEnc=C:\<whatever path>\Encoders\AutoQMatEnc\AutoQMatEnc.EXE

(of course, AutoQMatEnc.exe has been set up properly in the "Setup" menu as well.)

3. after saving REBUILDER.INI and restarting DVD-RB, AQM is recognized b/c the AQM option is not greyed out anymore.

4. initial test runs pose no problems so far.

5. here comes the interesting part: as soon as i load a project that was saved BEFORE AQM was installed, the AQM option is greyed out! REBUILDER.INI shows no more path to AQM that i just entered minutes ago!?!

that means:
1. DVD-RB doesn't allow me to chose AQM as the new encoder -- ie. i cannot even get to the PREPARE phase...
2. after closing DVD-RB, i obviously have to edit REBUILDER.INI and add AQM's path everytime i opened an older project file (*.RBD file), unless i save a more recent project and reload THAT one to re-activate AQM...

(do i make sense?)

i suppose REBUILDER.INI gets overwritten with the options that were saved in those *.RBD files...

as i said, this is not a big problem, just a surprise for me.

Yes. When you load a project file -- it loads the settings that were enforced at the time the project was saved. So if you didn't have the path established when you saved the project -- it won't be there after you load it. The only time that wouldn't happen is when you use BATCH -- because the original settings are saved and recovered before/after a batch encode.

so in other words, the project files are not "backwards compatible," right? :p it's not a big deal, but it might be prudent to "warn" other users :D .

thx for the quick reply. have a nice weekend.

I don't think its really much of an issue. Project files are short-term and are rarely used more than once. In most instances that would be for a batch encode -- and would make no difference. The path variables almost never change... so it is only seldom that the warning would even apply.

You just have to remember that when you load a project file directly you are reloading your INI with values that were saved -- all of them.

editing: founf these lines at the rebuilder.ecl

qmat_idx=0 and adjust_q_matrix=0, but i would have to change the values for evey item? thanks again!

The freeware version doesn't support custom matrices.

jdobbs,

is there a possibility to give AutoQMatEnc its own path in the setup menu in one of the future DVD-RB versions? it's kind of awkward to always edit the INI-file, especially when testing out and jumping between different beta versions of AQM. :D

thanks for the hard work!

The plan is to stop requiring any kind of setup on those packages that use the Registry for installation paths. AutoQMatEnc will soon (if not already) support it so setup won't be necessary at all.
