Help Need Avisynth Crash "Acces Violation" erro in CAVIStreamSynth module

HI all it just started to day to act so, I have already un installed and installed avisynth with different version 2.5.5 /2.5.6 /2.5.7 but always the same problem. It happens when the layer function is called (inside dekafka script) or at least I think so... here is the debug log

Presumably the same one I get: A giant red error message stating "CAVIStreamSynth System Exception - Access Violation". (Occasionally I get an instakill too, like the old SP2 SEH bug.) But my problem seems not related to his, and it's very difficult to nail down (but repeatable once it is), so I didn't want to pollute this thread.

with 2.5.6 the error is: "Avisynth:caught an acces violation at 0x10011060, attempting to read from 0x0314e540"

at any reboot the addresses are always different, but whit out a reboot the addresses are always the same.

I just received this error as well using beta 3. I was doing a 3-pass encode in cce via batchCCEWS. When it got to the final pass, the first few frames encoded fine and the rest had this error.

It was fine for the first few passes. I've no idea why this died on the 3rd.

Also does the script still choke if you replace the sources with BlackClip() equivalents and/or different files. i.e. is the fault data dependant.

I am also working to put back the PCounter and faulting address in the error message for the next release (Bad Me/Tritical). This may help in tracking these sort of problems in the future.

With these sort of problems make sure you PC is not going sick when worked hard and the processor heats up. Run some thrashing memory diags like memtest86 etc. Inspect the case holes, fans and heatsinks for dust and fluff.

My video was also YUY2. In my case it was a 1hour 6 min huffyuv file at 720x480 and interlaced.

The audio stream was 48000 stereo.

actualy it is iuVCR that want to capture with this resolution while other capture software like VirtualDub doesnt show 768*576 has a supported capture pin., but so far the problem exist iwith VirtualDub and iuVCR; another things maybe it is not the codec heither since avisynth crash with hffyuv and mjpec

well, that was my first thought and in the windows logs (and in my memory) there is no installation between the last succesfll avysinth work and the first avisynth crash

Your top offset is not correct. top offset + height logo = 500 + 78 = 578, while height of clip = 576. So, try a smaller top offset.

If this is not the problem could you upload a small sample clip with the mask?

I used the same version of huffyuv, btw.

As for repeatability - to my knowledge it's not the exact same frame but it does happen within the first few seconds of the 3rd (well 4th technically) pass in CCE.

It's hard for me to test as it take hours for me to get to the crash point.

With these sort of problems make sure you PC is not going sick when worked hard and the processor heats up. Run some thrashing memory diags like memtest86 etc. Inspect the case holes, fans and heatsinks for dust and fluff. A week ago I got the giant red error message stating "CAVIStreamSynth System Exception - Access Violation" during the last 20 minutes of a 24 min video clip. It was the third clip in a batch of 6. All the other 5 clips (including the last 3) were encoded fine. So I’m pretty sure it wasn’t a hardware problem.

The 6 of theses clips were 24 minutes episodes from a cartoon series I captured from TV and encoded to Xvid a couple of years ago. Now I was encoding them (OPVBR Q=1) with “CCE SP Trial Version 2.70” to make a DVD. All the 6 scripts were the same. I was trying FrFun7 filter, and as I was suspecting it was the culprit (great filter BTW, I guess I was wrong), I replaced it with some other filter and re-encoded the same clip without a problem.

Also does the script still choke if you replace the sources with BlackClip() equivalents and/or different files. i.e. is the fault data dependant. Today I have noticed a strange behavior:

1. If the source video is XviD or DivX Any single syntax error will make VirtualDub(Mod) Crash!!!:
1.1. If I load an AVS script with a syntax error, VD(mod) will vanish.
1.2. If I load a correct script and I purposely make a syntax mistake then “save and refresh”, sometimes VDmod will first display a strange incomplete error message and as soon as I press OK, It crashes (Faulting application virtualdubmod.exe, version 1.5.10.0, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x0197c328) or it just vanishes.
2. But If the source video is Mpeg2Source, or DirectshowSource(different to XviD/DivX), or a BlankClip there will be no problem: the correct “Script error: ….” message is displayed and no crash or “vanishing” of VirtualDub(mod)

Hardware: Athlon64 (Winchester) 3000+ No OverClocking
I’m using AVIsynth 2.5.7a3 on WinXP SP2 just Winupdated (yesterday?) Also, I recently installed: DivX 6.2.5 (yesterday ?)
and a Vanilla CVS build of “XviD 1.2.0-dev” (1.2.0.-127)

System: XP Pro SP2, 3500+ A64. No video output during encoding, obviously. AVS script used is trivial. Removegrain, awarpsharp, etc. No plugins loaded in script at all. Sauce is AVI AVisource("remote.avi",pixel_type="YV12"). AVI is video-only, 1024*576, WMV9 (I have WMV9VCM installed). AVS itself is 2.5.7a3. x264 is 532 sharktooth patched build.

Seems the error is not affected by bitrate or RDO setting (tried 6th and 7th).

I tried TWICE on same avs, and got that error both times. x264 continues to work, no error messages, only that huge exception text in the video itself :) It seems i do not have this problem when encoding same avs on same machine with 532 x264 vfw build in vdub.

Well if you downloaded the file I gave link to, you could see for yourself :) IIRC 1286 frame.
And so far the error doesn't show itself in vdub. I can try several times again though.

Well, tried again -- same stuff. But the framenumber is different (990 instead of 1286) so i guess that thing is not easy to trace.

I can send you sauce file + avs and pretty much anything which is related to that bug. It seems that at least in my case it crashes more or less reliably on TWO pass mode in x264. Constant quantizer seems working w/o troubles.

Is it possible to send me some degub versions or anything? I can try to run them on that machine, crash seems to be reproduced quite reliably here.

I just had this weird problem. I have been working on a short movie doing a re-cut. The movie consists of 19 scenes and I have processed each one of them separately and compressed with HuffYUV (ffdshow's) in YUY2 colorspace.

Today I tried joining them in my script (to add some black frames here and there) and using fast recompress in VDub to save the whole movie as one large HuffYUV clip. When the process hits the beginning of scene 13, the error occurs. It occurs at the same frame every time, just a couple of frames from the beginning of (lucky:p) number 13.

1) I tried removing that scene from the encode - it works.
2) I tried saving the scene again (so that any errors during compression would be cleaned up) - doesn't work.
3) I tried joining all the clips in VDub and direct stream copying as a large file, then using that file as the source - doesn't work.

I tried Avisynth v2.5.6, the latest 2.5.7 alpha and tritical's latest build but none of them works.

The source file is 720x576, 25fps. Nothing special about it..

I just saved the scene 13 as uncompressed YUY2 data and will check if that works. Fortunately it's not a very long one since it'll take a lot of HD space. EDIT: looks like it got past scene 13 without crashing, we'll see if encoding the complete clip to MPEG2 works :)

I have used Nero Digital to compress in H264 AVC with Avisynth 2.5.7 Alpha 3.

I have compressed three times and always the same error in diferents places: "CAVIStreamSynth System Exception - Access Violation"

I had the same problem in avisynth 2.5.7 when I used the transall plugin. I reinstalled 2.5.6 and the problem went away for the time being.
