Hi all-
I'm having a bit of a problem when backing up with DVD shrink. I get the message attached. When bringing the .vob files into Nero manually to burn the DVD, I get a message that the file is too large and you have to insert a DVD-9 disc.
Any suggestions? This is a relatively new problem. i did do an update to Nero here about a week ago. The version I'm using is 6.6.1.4

Is the source DVD a Dual Layer DVD?

No. A standard DVD.

@Burning Fury
Hi!
Are you sure you've provided the correct link? The one you've listed is about DVD Shrink and I/O errors when using an external drive...

Yes, if you had look, there was a comment by a user that i'm going to quote.
The I/O error means it doesn't like something about the disc. Try updating the firmware and Nero (only up to Nero 6.6.0.18) due to Shrink not working with Nero 6.6.1.4.
As you can see, DVDShrink can't work with version 6.6.1.4
And newtie's version is:
The version I'm using is 6.6.1.4
And so is mine, i guess i'm screwed too, LOL.
Hence the thread.
Cheers ;)

I see where you're going with that - but the reference to the "problem" between DVD Shrink and NERO v.6.6.1.4 wouldn't seem to be applicable here (or in the link either, actually).
In fact, when DVD Shrink is setup to use NERO automatically, if your NERO is v.6.6.1.4, it will generate a specific error - stating "Cannot connect to TRF".
This would appear to have nothing to do with "newtie" receiving an error stating that "When bringing the .vob files into Nero manually to burn the DVD the file is too large and you have to insert a DVD-9 disc."
Unfortunately, the attachment posted by "newtie" is still pending approval, so I guess we'll have to wait to see what the actual error message was...

....which once again, verifies that the quickest way to get your images into a post is to create an account with one of the free services (re: ImageShack) and embed a link in your post. :)
Attachment now validated. Looks like the TRF error is in play.

newtie--I've deleted your attachment after setarip pointed out that your Nero serial was included. There was no way to delete the number from an image. If you want to replace the image, take your screenshot into a photoeditor, wipe out the serial, and I'll re-approve the attachment, or, go with the suggestion from my previous post to this thread.

I see what your saying now Setarip_old.
My apologies for not understanding the issue at first.
This has happened before to me as well, and i have a theory of why this is happening.
First the Screen shot:

-First, rip your DVD, either in File mode or .ISO mode.
I assume you are using Recode, if you are trying to fit your .VOBs using your regular Burning Rom engine, you will never be able to fit them if the size is bigger that your single layer DVD, since you are not doing any compression.
You have to make sure that you have the right profile for the job. Hence, if you are backing up to a DVD5, then you must select the DVD5 profile under the tab, and check the arrow next to the profile to lock it. ( As shown in step 1 ).
Once passed that, you have 2 options, either you can load the .VOBs by clicking on the "DVD files tab" as in step 2, or you can load the complete DVD, in .ISO format, in step 3.
After that, just follow up the instruccions and you will be good to go.
Note that, don't select the: "Recode to Nero Digital" setting at the beginning, because, you won't be able to play the movie in your regular DVD player, although it will give you very nice quality, i don't know of any DVD player that can handle it yet.
But you can play it on the PC though.
I hope it gave you some answers.
Cheers ;)

@Burning Fury
"newtie" stated,I'm having a bit of a problem when backing up with DVD shrink.so it would seem that no, he/she isn't using NERO Recode...

@setarip_old, well, as far as i'm concerned, there is no other way to fit a movie that is bigger than the container format, without doing any compression. You can't just take the .VOBs like that and expect them to fit on your regular single layer DVD.
So, Nero Recode could apply to this situation, since it works just the same as DVDShink to "shrink" DVDs.
Newtie had said:
I'm having a bit of a problem when backing up with DVD shrink.
So, it is clear that newtie used DVDShrink to rip the DVD and back it up.
Now newtie also said this:
When bringing the .vob files into Nero manually to burn the DVD, I get a message that the file is too large and you have to insert a DVD-9 disc.
But note that, from the contex of the text, newtie is not using DVDShrink to "back up the DVD", since we had stated that DVDShrink does not work with the latest version of Nero.
So, clearly, it all points out that newtie used DVDShrink to ONLY rip the DVD, and then, tried to use Nero to back up (aka...Burn the .VOBs) into the DVD.
Now, it is unclear at this point what method newtie is using.
So we'll have to know for sure how newtie is doing the back up.
I suppose that until newtie provides more details to the issue,
we'll refrain posting, to avoid misunderstandings.
Cheers ;)

That's what I thought too, and that's why I asked if it was dual layer or not, since he/she said it wasn't, unless dvdshrink is ADDING info the the rip, I'm puzzled at why Nero cant burn it as is.
