I just got a widescreen 16:9 LCD monitor, and was curious why WinDVD can't fill up the WHOLE screen when playing widescreen DVD's. It does have the 'pan & scan' option but with no effect.

Hi!

Are the specific DVDs you've tried actually indicated to be 16:9 - or are they "Widescreen" format, with resolutions of e.g. 2.35:1, 1.85:1, etc. ...?

The specific DVD I was watching was called: 'Heat' and it just says: widescreen letterbox format with a SCOPE aspect ratio. The next one I tried was: The Boat with a 1:85 aspect ratio, but it still didn't fill the whole screen. 'Above the Law had a: Widescreen 1.78:1 Color (Anamorphic) with the same result. Its just that I always thought WinDVD's 'pan & scan' option was suppose to blow these screens up.
