I could care less that Sony is having problems. What goes around comes around... Dare I say rootkits.

"If Sony suffers any more missteps in bringing its PlayStation 3 video game console to market, its entire consumer electronics business strategy could be in jeopardy.

Now delayed until mid-November, the PS3 is more than just the next generation of game machine for the $26.6-billion-a-year video game industry that Sony dominates. It's also the centerpiece of Sony's (Research) plan to own the global standards for high-definition video and consumer-data storage and to create a common microprocessor platform that will enable Sony products to share music, video, and data seamlessly, thus becoming the master controller of the digital ecosystem.

But the Blu-ray Disc high-definition DVD player and the Cell microprocessor, the heart and brain of the PS3, are expensive to make, forcing Sony not just to delay the PS3 to the brink of the 2006 holiday season but also to price the basic and enhanced PS3 consoles at $499 and $599, respectively, much higher than any previous game machines and at least $200 above their next-generation rivals, Microsoft's (Research) Xbox 360 and Nintendo's Wii".

let them be squeezed to the brink of extinction, and then realise that it's their business model that's to blame.

they should really look at the things that made them such a big company, and look at the things that are killing them. hopefully they'll come to some meaningful conclusions (though it's perfectly possible they'll come to stupid ones as well).

Sony used to be the brand to buy. all their stuff was nicer, smaller, better, slicker. now it's amoung the least usable stuff out there, with the least features.

i think getting into the entertainment business was a very bad move for Sony. they should have stuck to consumer and pro AV equipment, and listened a little more to the R&D people and a little less to their own marketing junk (sony fanboys don't help either... basically mirrors for the PR crap. what use is a userbase that is willing to forgive every single flaw on a device for the imagined benefits they're getting? again i'm talking about MD).

i shudder to think about the gulf that will probably exist between the PS3's theoretical capabilities and what it'll actually be able to do.

sony is like metallica - started off so good, but now they're just producing poo, and it's a real shame because we all know how good they could be (hehe... lots of my metaphors involve metallica).

Back in the day when all Sony was interested in was selling hardware, I very much doubt they gave a toss about the media production companies protestations with regard to copyright infringements!

However, as Sony are a major media production business themsevles now, they are learning the hard way that they cant "have their cake and eat it"!

I hope Sony either go completely tits-up... or go back to selling hardware only!

yeah, I remember my friend complaining about his $200 sony DVD player that wouldn't play s/vcds
and my little sunglide(I think) dvd player played everything I threw at it, it even played some weird type that XP is able to produce by draging songs into the cd burner, sadly I killed that little $40 dvd player by using it to much


and I"m going to laugh at all the people that pay $2000+ for a PS3 only to find out that sony did something like forget to make the games for it

This backlash against Sony is not surprising and was inevitable, ever since E3 gamers have been expressing their collective disgust at PS3's price and the mediocre titles that were shown, and I imagine the road ahead for Sony is only going to get rockier as more gamers shift their focus onto other consoles such as the X360 and Wii that provide better value for money without forcing proprietary formats onto consumers.

Just chatting to the people in my local arcade convinced me of this. They agreed when I told them Sony are getting stupider and stupider, but they'll go whereever the titles will be... and that's Sony... FF, MGS, most fighting games series (and they are fighting games players).
