As I read on a german IT-News-Site, Pioneer released his announced BD-Recorder BDR-101A.

It costs 806 to 882 Euro.

Blank medias cost approx. 15 €.

Recording speed:
BD 2x (~9 MB/sec.)
DVD 8x.


There's no CD-Burn Support yet!


It's strange the blank medias are that cheap. As I hardly remember the first HD-DVD-blanks cost more, don't they?

The recorder and the blank media are available now on e.g. Mindfactory.de. Further retailers can be found on www.geizhals.at.
Amazon.com doesn't mark it as available yet.

That blu-ray recorder is an internal PC drive. The blank media holds 22GB. The drive will need a few years to be price competative with DVD burners.

A local electronics superstore already carries Blu-Ray media at $25 per disk.

And, over $1000 for the drive.

I have zero need for disk that holds more than a DVD. Sure, I could fill it up. But, I don't want to put that many eggs in one basket.

In a few years time I'm sure it will be very easy to fill 25GB, hell I wouldn't mind it for backing up my entire music collection. But yeah the price tag is rather hefty at the moment. The best thing about this is it might push the price of DVD burners down.
