Just had my first oversize problem with this Region 2(UK) episope disc

Not touched the sectorsize setting, only real thing I have set is the internal matrxi option with CCE 2.70 and also menu encoding is set to zero to compress all menus

Attached is my INI file

Dead straight Full Disc backup, using CCE 2.70.02.06, but with the filters set to change the colormatrix from Rec.601 to Rec.709 thats the only filter I had set for this project

Tried as an individual project and as a batch, always oversized

Thanks for any suggestions

This is the first oversized DVD I've had, the only real settings I change between projects is to add or remove filters depending on what my source is

Or if its a full disc or movie only backup

I'm using the very latest PRO version of DVD-RB and always update to the latest version as soon as its released

One thing I may think could be causing a problem, I'm using NAN's DECODE.dll along with the ColourMatrix filter option, but like I said this is the first oversized problem I have ever had

Try adding one more VBR pass as you are using CCE's adaptive quant matrices. It should make the encode hit the target.

I've done almost all of my jobs with eclpasses set to 2 and have never had an oversize... so I don't think that's it. I use DGDecode v1.4.5 and no filters (for most sources).

But do you have the adaptive quant matrices in use?

Good point -- no I don't. The way I see it, since Cinemacraft warns that it can cause problems with DVDs, I'd rather avoid the headache. That's why CCEAQM is a "hidden" option...

CCE's AQM is also used on many commercial DVD's (I think manono was the one who noticed this) so I don't know if it's that big an issue. Some very old Pioneer models apparently had problems - I've got a 6-year-old DV-343 which works just fine.

My experiences with the feature show that the second pass is very rarely accurate - to me it's like the first pass creates the general guidelines, the second one does the same with the adaptive matrices and the third one hits the target. I've also noticed that undersizing is more common than oversizing.

Sometimes I've seen that even the third one has been off the target and the fourth one gets it right. This happens usually when you have lots of bits to spare and the video compresses well.

Thus, if anyone uses AQM, I recommend doing three passes, in extreme cases four.

Maybe I should add that recommendation to the REBUILDER.TXT file.... there seems to have been a lot of posts lately about over/undersizing with CCE AQM.

Well I solved it, but not by doing 3 passes (which I did used to use), I just ran the output through CloneDVD that I use as well for movies that are very close to 100%, not worth running it through DVD-RB just for that tiny difference

It was only very slightly oversized, CloneDVD listed it as 99% of the original (once DVD-RB had done the hard work)

I may go back to three passes if it happens again with more DVD's

Thanks anyway, I had a thought it might have something to do with the CCEAQM option and the number of passes just not quite getting it right the 2nd pass and needed that extra pass just to tweak things that little bit more
