View Full Version : is there any utils to test x264 conatins in mp4/mkv for errors
like these
xvid/divx in avi there is divfix or virtualdub (scan video stream for errors)
realmedia - rmtest or RealMedia Analyzer
....
if you tell us what errors there should be we might be able to tell you how to fix them...
i download some clips from ftp to view later when i am free, occasionally there will be errors (video glitch/video just stop) due to multiple resumes
is there utils to verify these files for errors, so i can redownload the error files again before files are remove from the servers
i doubt those are file errors, propably those files use avc and you lack of cpu
those are file errors due to to resume download
can't seem to find a utils that scan thru these files for errors.

Normally, resuming from ftp should not result in errors. Ask the people from the ftp to put up a md5 checksum for the files. Because if it really is a download error, it might not (only) be in the h264 bitstream, but in the container structure.
OK, let just said i want to scan a bunch of mp4 files for errors
is there such a tools?

You already see the errors right? I don't know what an additionial check with a tool could do more. In essence a decoder is a bitstream checker.
But I don't know if there is one, and I have no idea what you would want to achieve with it. Even if there are errors in the file, there is no way of knowing if it came from downloading the file or that the errors were there in the first place.
IF you assume there are download errors you need a md5 checksum or something similar. Not something that checks the integrity of a bitstream.

You can try it, but sometimes you're just SOOL

There is an mkvverify tool for testing streams, though it will not test the encoded contents of the streams. One thing you can do is get a tool like timecodec with null renderer that will play a file as quickly as possible right after download, if any errors crop up it might tell you.
A better solution would be to get an FTP client that resumes properly and doesn't corrupt your files all the time, or at least get them to use .sfv files, which many ftp clients can check against automatically.
