I've got this DVD that's encoded as 4:3 but the original movie was anamorphic or something like that. Here's a picture

Is there an easy way to crop the video and put it back together with the original menu's et al?

If the video attributes for the titleset are marked as "4:3" and "source letterboxed" DVD players should show it properly. Check it with IfoEdit.

only just had the time to check this out. couldnt find the field that described as source (not familiar with this program). but the title set video attribute is set as 4:3. I changed this to 16:9 and the picture is squashed and still comes with a that letter box effect.
Is there a way to crop the video easiy?

Sorry, IfoEdit mislabeled the field. Open your ifo with IfoEdit, click on "VTSI_MAT", double click the correct video attributes (VTSTT_VOBS if it is the title). Now check 4:3 radio button and in the area called "static" check "Letterboxed (top&bottom cropped). Click OK and save.

...in the area called "static" check "Letterboxed (top&bottom cropped). Click OK and save.I have found these options to be a complete mystery, and googling has not uncovered any clear description of the effect of each. Does your site explain them in the DVD info area?
I would join just to learn about these and get them right! :o

We updated the names and descriptions of many fields since IfoEdit develpment stopped, so it may be difficult to determine what is what. Also my site is no longer the official IfoEdit support site, despite links into it from ifoedit.com
The 3 options in the "static" area:
Automatic Pan&Scan - applies to 16:9 only and is one of two ways to display 16:9 video on a 4:3 screen. Enabling this allows the DVD player to show the video in "full screen" mode.
Automatic Letterboxed - applies to 16:9 only and is the other way to display 16:9 video on a 4:3 screen by letterboxing it.
Letterboxed (top&botton cropped) - should be called "Source Letterboxed" and applies to 4:3 only. Setting this tells the DVD player that the video is already letterbox matted. For a 4:3 screen this should be shown as is, but for a 16:9 screen it should be resized.
16:9 is required to have one of the options selected, and may have both.
Note also that IfoEdit interprets and sets the wrong bits for resolution, anything other than 720x480 or 720x576 will be interpretted incorrectly.
