hi all,

how do i know which xvid codec version 1.0 or 1.1 i have installed on my PC?and which one is being used by gknot?

coz in the options tab of gknot divx version is shown but thats not the case for xvid

gknot's still the best DVD to xvid conv. right?

also some movies which i have converted using xvid
have blurry edges and a sort of a
translucent film around the persons in the movie?
(i encode at 640xXXX and adjust the file size such that the bit/pixel*frame is aroung 0.235)

thanks in advance

You can download the latest version of xvid from Koepi's site (http://www.koepi.org/xvid.shtml) here: http://www.koepi.org/XviD-1.1.0-30122005.exe
Just uninstall whatever versions you have installed at the moment and install that version.
GK is a bit old now, you should look at a tool like meGUI (which is what I use) or AutoGK (which is very simple and easy to use). There is information on meGUI here: http://forum.doom9.org/forumdisplay.php?f=78 (read the sticky!).

Alternatively you can use G-spot.
The newest version comes with a "codec-check" feature.

It will tell you which codecs do you have, and it will also let you know which work and which don't.

Cheers ;)
