Are you using MPC, Media Player Classic?

If you are you need to turn it on to mode VMR 9 Renderless. I think you can use VMR7 renderless as well, but I don't remember off hand.

Note: to activate subtitles, click on the picture while playing, go to subtitles and select them if they are not already selected.
You can only do this if you are in VMR 7/9 renderless.

Or you can use VLC, Video LAN Client. It works by right clicking and selecting the subtitles.

ffdshow has an internal sub decoder, so you shouldnt need vobsub or mpc

first of all you need a mp4 parser filter that handles subtitles in .mp4, that is haali's or gabest's parser

than you need to enable the subtitle support in ffdshow

and than it might work :D

I still use Vobsub just because FFDShow can't read multiple subs in a MKV-file. (and it also looks nicer than FFDShow :p)

Bond is correct here, although after doing multiple tests with vobsubs in MP4 I've found that ffdshow's support for vobsubs really isn't that great. It seems to display them sometimes and sometimes not, for example if you seek forward within the file it has a hard time displaying them, but seeking backward usually works. I personally would rather use vsfilter as it is much more stable and tried-and-true. For those not familiar with registering VSFilter.dll (in order to have vobsubs decoded) I found an installer package that does all the work http://www.free-codecs.com/download_soft.php?d=1405&s=379.
If using Haali's splitter and in conjunction with VSFilter, you should set it to auto load VSFilter in the splitter options.
