View Full Version : Backup to Dual-Layer?

Hello all, this is my first post here and I'm hoping you guys can help.
I was wondering if there's anything special I need to do to take a movie and back it up to a Dual-Layer DVD? We're going on a big trip soon and I'd rather not take my originals with me...And, it's nice to have the backups, so I'd like the whole disc preserved.
I was browsing the forum a little and noticed something about "layer breaks" popping up a lot, and I was wondering how I would set one (or if I need to set one), and what programs I would use to do that. Right now I have DVD Decryptor, DVD Shrink 3.2, and Nero 7 Ultra Edition. Any advice is greatly appreciated :)
Thanks!

Hi!
For other than DVDs that contain "ARccOS" copy protection (DVD Decrypter cannot DIRECTLY "rip" "ARccOS" copy protected DVDs), the only tool you'll need is DVD Decrypter v.3.5.4 to both "rip" and burn as follows:
1) Use DVD Decrypter in "ISO" mode to "Read .ISO" (remove copy protection and copy to your hard drive) and then,
2) Use DVD Decrypter in "ISO" mode to "Write .ISO" (burn) - Note: Select the ".MDS" file rather than the ".ISO" file, to ensure proper placement of the critical layerbreak

Hello again!
Thank you for your fast response, and now I have one more question.
If I wanted to backup a DVD with the "ARccOS" encryption, how would I go about doing that?

Thank you for your fast responseAs always, my pleasure ;>}and now I have one more question.
If I wanted to backup a DVD with the "ARccOS" encryption, how would I go about doing that?Since you've specifically asked this of me, my personal favorite (commercial) software for copying such DVDs is DVD95Copy ("Pro" version). It will decrypt, compress (if you want), and burn your backup "with the push of a button".
Other posters may suggest alternative freeware and commercial programs available...
Enjoy your big trip!

You can also backup your ARccOS-encrypted DVD using only DVD Decrypter and a PSL2 file, the latter of which you can find easily by searching for your title and "PSL2."

@CWR03
Hi!You can also backup your ARccOS-encrypted DVD using only DVD Decrypter and a PSL2 fileActually, when using your suggested methodology, most current iterations of "ARccOS" require additional steps using software (all freeware), such as "PGCEdit", "VOBBlanker", and/or "FixVTS"...
