which are what...and what they do...

I have been using DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter for about a year without any problem, creating .iso files and burning them to disk with no problem.

I have just done my first DVD that needed other software for decryption, mainly PGCEdit with the PSL2 plugin. I was able to get around the encryption and am presently watching the DVD on my computer.

The question I have is this: I now have the .vob, .fob, and .ifo files in the VIDEO_TS folder and a sub-folder with PgcEdit_backup subfolder with .ifo files.

What steps do I take to create a DVD (if I use DVD Decrypter, which mode do I use)? How are the .ifo files in the PgcEdit_backup folder used?

As I understand it, the video files are the .vob files. Are they written on the DVD in a special way, not just as data files? If this whole subject is more complex than a simple answer can provide, please feel free to refer me to a website for better understanding of the process. I have not had much success finding a simple explanation.

Thanks in advance for your help. I guess I am just a bit thick.

Hi!What steps do I take to create a DVD...?It sounds like the only step you have remaining is, while in PGCEdit, from the "File" dropdown menu, select "Burn DVD/Create .ISO"...

Thanks. Found it. But I created the image and it is 7GB (the movie is Capote). Is there any way to run the .iso image through DVD shrink and reduce it??? Have I done something wrong??

Thanks

Is there any way to run the .iso image through DVD shrink and reduce it???Sure. Just click on the "File" dropdown menu in DVD Shrink - and select "Open Image" (Or press "Control" plus "I").

By the way - Since you had already created a DVD "package" (.IFOs, .BUPs, and .VOBs) on your hard drive that still requires compressing, there was no need, at that point, to create an .ISO. You could have simply used DVD Shrink to "Open Files" and selected the folder containing your DVD "package"...

Thanks. That is the kind of info I was hoping to find out.

Just one more question then: do I understand correctly that the "final common pathway" for video files is that they have to be converted to .iso files and that they can't just be burned onto a disk as if they were data files--is that correct?

Thanks,
Ken

You would NOT be limited to that option if you have a burning program, such as "NERO Burning ROM" or similar, which is capable of burning DVD "packages" (.IFOs, .BUPs, and .VOBs) in "DVD-Video" mode (as well as from .image files).

On the other hand, programs such as "DVD Decrypter" and "IMGBurn" are limited to only being able to burn image files...

I also have Roxio DVD Creator 6 and Ulead DVD Movie Factory 4. Are those programs able to burn from the .vob, .ifo, and .fob files? I have used Movie DVD Factory for burning some TV episodes that I have captured with DVDArchive.

Thanks
