Is it possible to put 2 (or 3) DVD drives in a single machine and then run 2 or 3 instances of a DVD ripping software and rip multiple dvd's at the same time? My library is rather large, and I'd like to speed up my ripping operation.

Also, I notice my somewhat older A03 and A04 drives are pretty poor performers for DVD ripping. Are there any suggestions for a fast DVD ripping drive?

My A03 seems limited to 1x my ao4 or a07, not sure which is is, is somewhere between 2-3x. I'm seeing that DVD read speeds on newer drives max out at 16x. I think I may even have a 16x drive in one of my machines, if I do, I'll do some comparisons. I remember my A03, that when you upgraded to windows XP there was some problem that basically limited the drive to 1x reads. Never did find a fix to that.

You might want to go to an OFFICIAL Pioneer website and seek out firmware updates specific to each of your burners.

You should also check to make certain that your drives are in DMA mode (NOT PIO mode)...

As far as ripping two disks at once, it will not be faster. It will take many times longer for your computer and its controllers to sort out from which drive to read and to which drive to write than it will take to rip one at a time, but it is possible.

I disagree. I've ripped two at a time without either process suffering any slowdowns.

I've done that and it worked OK. It shouldn't be to hard to try it out yourself to see what speed you get.

The hard part is not ejecting the wrong drive when one rip finishes. ;)

I have found if you rip to two different harddrives,you will get better speed,but I have no problems ripping two dvds at a time.

Rip speed hacks have been around as long as those drives have. They rip slow because Pioneer intentionally limited read speeds...less errors.

Just get a rip speed hack firmware, not burn speed hack, and you'll be very surprised.

I stuffed another DVD drive in my machine and I'm ripping 2 DVD's at a time. I have two seperate hard drives so I rip each DVD to it's own drive. Now to find some of these speed hacks.
