Quick question: Which options in X264 break mpeg-4 spec? Are all of sharktooth's MeGUI scripts mpeg-4 compliant?

Yes. Whatever the input is, the output is ok and compliant, afaik.

The easiest way to generate an invalid bitstream is to set profile_idc or level_idc too low. I don't know of any software players that care, but technically the stream would be illegal.
