No Audio after burning DVD

I am very very new to this, so please be patient with me. I have a movie that has been ripped into 2 equal sized AVI's. I have tried converting them to DVD so that I can play the movie back in a stand alone DVD player. I have used both Smart DVD creator and Cyberlink DVD producer. The results after many hrs of creation are, great video, and zero sound. To be honest, I have no idea where to go from here. I have read help files and they are as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike. What I need is a idiotproof tutorial on how to achieve this, or where I am going wrong. I thought these programs did most of their thing automatically. As I said before, I am a rank amateur at this.
