DVD2SVCD 1.0.5 Build 1 is released here for now only, I'm leaving for a small vacation. I'll be back Tuesday 18 december. That's why I only release it here. If there's no major bugs in 1.0.5 Build 1 I will make a full release Tuesday or Wednesday.

Here's what I have been doing:

- Fixed a bug when using long filenames in a PVA file (actually the bug is in pvastrumento but I found a workaround)
- Well, it seems that people was still having problems when dvd2avi run. So I made a drastic decision and created a modified version of dvd2avi which would accept commandline options.
- Sometimes bbMPEG could stall at the initial "open project file" (which actually was implemented as a windows xp workaround)
- When hitting the CDRom button, dvd2svcd wouldn't always find an ifo file. That was due to people having more than one cd-rom installed.
- Totally rewrote my XML file procedure, and at the same time got a much better understanding of how it works.
- When doing NTSC2PAL conversion + subtitles, the saving of subtitles could fail.
- Using temporalsmoother and forgetting to add strength and radius values would make CCE fail.
- Fixed chapters was flawed. Fixed.
- Smaller memory footprint.
- Discarded the use of CRDE2001.dll (image library). Thanks to M1ckey M0use, for the links.
- Fixed the title/changecd picture when using vcdxbuilder.
- Fixed some stupid error messages
- Removed support for I-Author, but added support for both SVCD and CVD subtitles using a nice program Herbert and DDogg mentioned to me. That means that the final result has the ability to include selectable subtitles no matter what you select in the CD-Image tab. Even if you select "Don't create CD Images", and you burn the mpg files with Nero, it'll still support subtitles.
- Added support for SSRC downsampling (recommended if you downsample audio)
- Added warning messages when dvd2svcd executes crital programs like CCE and bbMPEG.
- Optimized the ripping speed when using internal routines.

Is that all? Holy hell. That's some sweet work and the changelog is about the same as others have been but there are quite a few major changes thus the 1.05 version. I like to be the first to kiss I-author's ass goodbye into the blue moon. SSRC sounds like it'll save major time for many. I'll play with it in a couple of hours. Please report any bugs...especially any calculation errors. Remember that now is your chance since DVD2SVCD is in the Bahamas and we won't have to take the wrath of him if we goof up. Ask for the umbrella with your pina colada.

EDIT: Bad news folks, it seems that only Herberts VCDImager supports the new subtitle format, VCDXBuild fails miserably. Oh, well, I'll fix it when I come back

Just a little help here: twopass SSRC is pointless in the case of 2-pass azid gaining. This could speed things up a bit, i meant to mention this when you released the ssrc "hack" for older versions of dvd2svcd, but I just edited it myself and forgot all about it. Other than that, I haven't had problems with 1.0.5 B1

I was able to create a test DVD with three chapters with SVCD subitles (backup of Die Hard with a vengeance region 2). I used VCDXbuild to get chapter support. After creating the images, i had to remove the PCB block from XML and rerun VCDXbuild to get the menu.

When playing the movie, I had to select subtitle 2 for displaying it.

But... After showing a couple of subtitles, my Philips stand-alone DVD player hangs and won't go further. I had to remove the AC power to get it to work again. I tried it on different spots and all the same result.

But have fun on your little holiday now :-)

Moved from I-Author to VCDXBuild and...fantastic! Chapters, subtitles (CVD subs did work, SVCD didn't work anymore; you need I-author for svcd subs i guess.. :confused:)
Only the title picture is automatically encoded with the max average with give a more blocky picture for bitrates below 2000. Why not encode with the the max bitrate?

Vice versa. I-Author does CVD-style subs. The "new" tool gives you the option to do real SVCD subs. While most players will happily play CVD subs (mine at least:)), some players will only accept "true" SVCD subs according to the IEC standard.

fixed chapters do not work for me. actually they do not work since 1.04x.

no subtitles at all (except permanent subs). the i-author subs never worked with my player, the "new" method either, but you mentioned that above ...

Has somebody start testing? The new version crashes every time during the ripping process and reboots my computer (Duron750, ECS K7VZA, 448MB Ram, Geforce2 MX, Win98SE). I tried the internal routines as well as vstrip - no change. The ripping process of version 1.03 and 1.04 was okay.

DVD2SVCD seems to make everything perfectly, but when I start to
watch ready made movie, after a short period, black screen jump up with a redtext message Avisynth: Caught accsess violation.... sound it self continuous running without any problems...

I have seen from forum there is other person which has the same problem...

I really dont't know, what cause this problem...!!!

could you please tell me how/where to get only the new sub-rip program ? I often do the ripping without your (really great) all-in-one-tool and would like to do the sub-ripping on my own (for testing).

As I never had adaptec's easy cd I never could prove the correct svcd sub-rips on my yamakawa 715.

Installed ForceAspi, made a bios update and tried this

ctramtest V5.1 (ftp://ftp.heise.de/pub/ct/ctsi/ctramtst.zip)

and found - a bad memory module.
Somebody posted that DVD2SVCD and CCE are very good programs to check your memory - man, you are right.
I now finished my first test rip and it worked without problems except chapters (used VCDXBuild with DVD chapters).
So, where does DVD2SVCD save the chapterinfo - in my DVD2SVCD chapters file is nothing but the heading and in the script file I can only find chapter 01.

Only the CVD subs work on my Seg2000 (yamakawa 715 clone). Tried a single chapter with both CVD and SVCD subs and made a quick burn with Nero.

Don't forget to rewind a little when changing subtitles. You can switch between audio channels while playing, with subs you can't.

it is not a new ripper, but rather a new subtitle muxer - look for submux in the Vobsub package. AFAIK this (or a modified version) is used in the 1.0.5.B1.

submux from the vobsub package does not accept .mpg. Are you sure, it is the same tool?
I also would like to use the muxer seperately, unfortunately until now I could not figure out how to do it.

No, I am not sure ... it is more or less a guess. Anyway, the program is called submux, read more here: http://rilanparty.com/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10923 ... the only submux I know of is the one I mentioned :).

the source for this proggie originates AFAIK from HVR sites as DVD2SVCD mentioned in his anouncement of 1.0.5 B1.

Unfortunately I still get the error message

This shouldn't be a problem. Now my question is, what are the tools, that create these OGT.txt file and the .sub file?
I could not find any in the DVD2SVCD package, DVD2SVCD creates these files nevertheless. Is it possible, that I-Author's ogtcreator and vob2sub are part of the DVD2SVCD.EXE?

I belive DVD2SVCD uses his own routines to create the txt file and teh .bmp files.. Since he also wrote the avisynth subtitler plugin i belive so you can have burnt in subtitiles via avisynth.

For me only CVD subtitles work. OGT subtitles do not show up on my Mustek V300. I will do further testing (I am actually searching for images with OGT subtitles to download).

Other than that, great success for a build 1!!

My tests have shown that submux does't work from within DVD2SVCD because of wrong searchpath to the *.bmp's in the files "OGT.txt file and the *.sub file"
If you copy the commandline from the dvd2svcd log and run it with a copy of submux.exe in the same directory as the sub.bmp's you will have a go.

Well, I do infact run SubMux.exe from within the same folder as the bmp files, so it should work (well, it works here, and other places), but i'll check up on it.

Thank you Radioman and DVD2SVCD. As soon as I have access to my PC again, I will check it out. What about vob2sub, should I run vob2sub.exe from the same directory as the .vob files? I could extract subs from a MPEG files, but not from .vob.
