New release - "Transamerica"

It was interesting to note that the Region 1 version of "Transamerica" not only doesn't contain either "RipGuard" or "ARccOS" copy protection - it doesn't even contain the "standard" CSS copy protection ;>}

After reading your post, I just put the DVD9 "Transamerica" in my drive and checked it out with AnyDVD. I can't remember the last time I saw one like this.

The title that is released next week that seems half way decent is Freedomland but that did not receive good reviews. Have you ever gone to this site?

It's not a Sony release. The DVD Label has the following on it:

The point I made about this DVD is that it doesn't even have CSS copy protection...

In which case it's legal to copy it! (unless there's some other form of protection on it, which invokes section 1201).

freedomland is protected by ARccOS. DVD Fab Decrypter has been updated already to 2.9.7.9 to take care of it.

Without having seen it, I would also expect the wizard to be able to rip this and probably AnyDVD won't be far behind, if at all.

In the same Way, FASCINATION_PAL R2 doesn't contain ArCoos nor Ripguard.
It's a SONY release but a MGM distribution(!).

"Transamerica" does not even contain CSS protection, which is very unusual...

This is what I don't understand. If I were a film studio now I would release the DVD with no CSS, no Macrovision and save the 25c or whatever it is that the royalties are on the disc.

1) The studios are probably all locked in to long-term contracts to pay for the protection

2) The protection still prevents many unknowledgable people from making copies - Same logic as to why car doors still have locks ;>}

I just tried to copy Transamerica on my PC. I am in Australia. However the PC's DVD drive did not recognise that it even had a DVD in it. I have AnyDVD 6.0.6.1 on the PC. The original DVD played fine in my DVD player and when I put the DVD into my laptop (without a DVD burner and AnyDVD 6.0.6.1) I was able to rip it fine with Shrink. Then via my external drive I transferred the file to my PC and copied it fine from files. During the same period I easily copied another 4 DVD's using Shrink on my PC. I only had problems with Transamerica. Any ideas?

Yes Digga, did all that, cleaned disc, disabled AnyDVD and during the same session successfully copied 4 other newish titles. Took Transamerica out of the drive, wiggled it about and put it back in a couple of times. Hopefully it was a once off! ...... or should I update my PC? ..... (To my wife ..... only joking dear!)

As I said above, I got Transamerica copied OK, I used our other computer (a laptop) and then transferred the ripped files to the PC via my external hard drive.

Im an Aussie that lives in the US and the Wiggles and Croc Hunter are required viewing for my American Kids, its about the only Aussie TV you can get unless you download stuff of course ......

But a 3 dayer of of the Cricket requires to much bandwidth ;)
