View Full Version : DScaler deinterlacing in FFDShow, GONE?

Some media file using x264 encoding needs a recent FFDShow to decode. But the Deinterlacing->DScaler filter is GONE! I always use the DScaler deinterlacing filter MoComp2 for real 480i MPEG2 source playing using FFDShow as a RAW postprocessing filter.

Since when does the function is dropped? I need a FFDShow version WITH DScaler deinterlacing and x264 video decoding. Thanks in advance.

Er, it was never there? It has it's own section, funnily enough, called "DScaler". I imagine if you have a play it'll give you what you need. I haven't checked the latest unofficial ffdshow builds, cause they give me issues.

I'm pretty sure someone needs to put their foot into their mouth! :D

Yes, there is a whole "DScaler" section in FFDShow, BUT it's for the usage of picture enhancement filters, such as Sharpen, Denoise etc. DEINTERLACER filter can NOT be called in that "DScaler" section.

The old FFDShow has a "DScaler" option under the Deinterlacing section, also a sub-section to select which DScaler deinterlacer filter to be used in FFDShow Deinterlacing.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. If I'm indeed completely wrong, am I dreaming for the past few years! :D

Still would love to know since when did the DScaler deinterlacing option be gone in FFDShow. And if there is any chance to put it back. Thanks in advance.

Ooh, dear me, sorry 'bout that! Erm..... I'd reckon it's not been there for a year or so, but I've never needed to use it, therefore never checked it's there. Why specifically DScaler? What's wrong with using AviSynth?

AVISynth filters work great for 24/30fps film source pulldown recovery processing but it seems don't work in real 60fps video content deinterlacing.

Besides the DScaler's MoComp2 deinterlacer give the BEST picture quality for real 60i video source IMO.

Is the option still in the FFDShow source tree? Can I compile it myself? Thanks in advance.

DScaler's Deinterlace-Filters are still there in latest builds:

ffdshow CANNOT handle avisynth filters that alter the framrate.

so an avisynth bobdeinterlacing filter will half the playback speed.

That seems to be a bug in ffdshow.

Well prolly DScaler should be installed alongside the DScaler plugin when installing, dunno about the DScaler versions supported but I make a wild guess that it should be 5.

@Avish: You should check if
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\GNU\ffdshow\dscalerPth
is set correctly!

It must contain the full path to the directory where the DI_*.dll files are located.

Hey Mulder, DS4 or DS5? I'm curious if anyone's managed to get 5 to work with FFDshow.

DScaler4

AFAIK all that has been released of DScaler5 ist the MPEG-2 decoder filter. And the deinterlace options available in that filter are "Force Weave" and "Force Bob". So why would anybody want to use DScaler5's deinterlacer in ffdshow? Ffdshow already has a Bob Deinterlace filter included...

Of course you can use Dscaler5 for MPEG-2 decoding and ffdshow for post-processing. That works.

I was having the same problem with this same build, and the registry path was blank. Entering the correct path (C:\Program Files\DScaler) fixed it.

Thanks!

So I guess that's what the "..." button next to "Paths / DScaler" in ffdshow's "Tray, dialog & paths" page is for - why does everyone edit the registry? *wonders*

If you setup everything correctly in the installer, you won't need to edit anything ;)
