How to encode picture to MPG2?

To explain my problem. Preparing menu for DVD where is static picture and music plays on background. To follow DVD specs I have to make MPG2 stream from picture, but as its only one sigle screen then i was thinking if it is not possible to encode it with some parametres to allow as low bitrate as possible with preserving perfect quality of image. Like encode 1st frame with insane bitrate (9k) and rest is same so...

Any idea? Could it work this way?

I know how to encode MPG2 - that is not problem. Im regullary using CCE, but still wanted to know if there is some way how to encode MPG2 as small as possible. Ofc i can make .avi file from picture with desired length and encode it. But if I encode just single frame at 9Kbps its 50Kb, but when I take that 30 sec video containing 750x same frame, result is large as hell...

Can't you set the menu to just loop that single frame over and over? I'm pretty sure thats how its supposed to work.

You can accomplish this (with a static image [.BMP or .JPG] and music) using "TMPGEnc DVD Author v.1.6. You can obtain a FULLY functional free 30 day trial version of this commercial program at:

Please note that I am referring to a static image as part of the menu - NOT a static menu, per se...

Are you trying to replace an animated menu with a still shot that has all the buttons 'n' stuff?

I use DVD Shrink for this. Here's how:

1) Open DVD Shrink, import any old DVD files, and go to reauthor.
2) Choose any small titleset (movie trailers or even studio logos work great for this) and create a project from it by double-clicking it.
3) Go to compression settings, and select "still image" from your drop-down menu.
4) Use the browse button to find your image, and you can then import it. Now what'll happen is that DVD Shrink will replace that studio logo or whatever with your still frame. Since the stream will be converted to MPEG2, you can then take a still from that using DVD Remake (which is what I'm assuming you're using).

As far as the size of the still goes (usually, the still is reported as around 14-15K by Remake)... you have any idea how small an amount of space we're talking about, and how little difference it'll make on the rest of your project's encoding quality? It's really not worth worrying about. I mean REALLY not worrying about.

Although, perhaps I assume too much! Good luck, either way.

sure it is. for a while that's all you'd get on a DVD... i couldn't talk you through doing it, because i'm a Spruce man (though scenarist looms over the horizon what with HD coming), but the scenarist guru here says it's quite possible.

You need to create your scenarist track as a slideshow. import your bmp and then the audio. You will need to adjust the slide length from the default 10s to whatever your audio length is.
Once this is done you can add your subs and buttons (if required)
