Hi everyone, I recently purchased an NEC 3550A burner to replace my aging Liteon 411s because my old drive was having a lot of write errors when burning DVDs. With my new burner I've tried burning at 4x and 6x but I still get some errors when I scan the DVD using Nero ScanDisc. I am using Sony dvd+r media rated at up to 8x and the media code for them is YUDENT000 T02 (which I think are good, since they're Made in Japan).

Anyways I'm just kind of frustrated because I bought the new drive and good media yet it still seems unable to write a DVD without some problems, all though I don't know if these errors affect playback at all. I don't really know what to make of the ScanDisc results in Nero, it says some sectors on the disc are "damaged" and they occur in various points throughout the disc. If there's a better program to check quality of scans I can check that out then post screens. Thanks!

Hi!though I don't know if these errors affect playback at all.The certain way to determine this is to play the DVD. You may be pleasantly surprised to discover that the "errors" indicated by your checking programs have no bearing on the actual playback ability...

I had a similar problem with a PIONEER drive and I flashed the ROM and it worked fine.

I would try different media entirely. You could pick up some TDK 16x rated disks at costco for $39 per 100 pack. Try those, and if they also fail when burning at 8x, then I'd suggest you take that drive back and get another one. I have the same drive, and don't have those kind of problems. But I haven't used Sony media with it yet.
