Thanks for the tip. The GSpot information on the AVI as created by Avi-Mux is as follows:

File Length Correct
DivX Style "packed bitstream" AVI
Multipart OpenDML AVI (4 parts), "rec list" style
(226 frames in first part, 199895 frames follow)
Interleave: 776 ms (18.6 v.frames), preload=1632
Audio frames: Aligned on interleaves

The GSpot information on the AVI as created by MPEG4Modifier CL v1.4.4 with the command line: mmcl --always-write input.avi output.avi produces the following:

File Length Correct
DivX Style "packed bitstream" AVI
Multipart OpenDML AVI (2 parts)
(186965 frames in first part, 13156 frames follow)
Interleave: 904 ms (21.7 v.frames), preload=1632
Audio frames: Aligned on interleaves


So it's still a Multipart OpenDML AVI but with fewer parts?? I don't have access to my DVD player to try this out right now but I will check if I have better luck with this AVI tonight.

Forget avimux and use virtualdubmod.

Processing my AVIs through MPEG4Modifier did the trick. Thanks for the advice (and thanks to Moitah for the tool!).

"video resolution not supported"
The audio plays, but the video doesn't. Is this because of a hardware limitation?

Using mpeg4modifier didn't help.

bolke, I am sure someone will be able to explain exactly what's wrong. I don't know enough but I use the following app:

AVI ReComp

Converts all those stubborn files for playback on my Phillips. It may not be the answer your looking for but I thought I would throw it out there for you, good luck.

The resolution of the movie is higher than 720x576.
Because of this you have only audio.
Is a hardware limitation. Your player will never play files with High Definition.
mpeg4modifier can't help. Also AviRecomp can't.
Recode your movie using for example AutoGK.

The resolution is 768 x 432.

This player won't play Verbatim +R DL disks that I've burned lately.

It's a couple of years old now. Is this just due to it's age? I see I posted above it used to play my Memorex +R DLs.

I just checked the specs on this unit on CDFreaks and it doesn't even list DLs as being playable.

^they play mine just fine. try running yours under cold water and drying in an outword direction with a scratch-free fabric. sounds crazy, but this trick has always worked for me without doing damage to the disc.
