Convert mp4 w/sub to DVD

Hi
Hope this is the right place to ask about this
I have this film in mp4 format, with built-in subtitles, which I can play on my computer either with VLC or Nero Showtime but I want to burn it on DVD, and all the mpeg converters I tried didn't make a very good job and the DVD authoring prog I use won't even recognize this format.
So if anyone here would know how to do that, I'd be much pleased

if your dvd tool supports .avs avisynth input you can load the .mp4 via directshowsource in an avs script

Is there any tutorial to show me how to do that.
I don't know much about the subject.

PS: I use VideoStudio 9 from Ulead for my most commons needs but please feel free to indicate others if they do a better job
