Sony Rippes on DVD+R - Official :)

@E3 It has to be a bad day for the MPAA and Sony.

Looks like a journalist at a sony vayo stand revealed the truth behing blueray and discovered that a DVD+R can do just the same.

Also this could be a allerged case of DCMA violation since the disk has been ripped somehow... Take a look at these pictures in a blue ray demo.

Yeah it was a comparison demo. If you read the comments on that website some other people there state that the guy was just really drunk and that's why he didn't understand this.

As far as DMCA violations, Sony is the licensed distributor for that movie. Its literally their DVD to rip. They could bypass the CSS all they wanted but I think they clearly wouldn't have to.

If you read the comments it's hard to tell what's going on, with all the noise between the sony fanboys and antisony fanboys. I was amused that zeal made an appearance though...

This whole thing is all false. What you're seeing there is one of the two computers they had set up to show the difference between an HD movie and a normal DVD movie. They were basically side by side and one was showing HD, the other normal DVD.

You'll notice that in this setup the left hand side is the one playing the DVD and the right hand side is the one with the Blu-Ray. You'll see the DVD+R disc ejected out of the left hand side one.

The girl who spread the story was either just too stupid to understand or was trying to raise bad press for Sony.

I would like to clarify this issue regarding the content that was shown last night at the Sony VAIO 10th anniversary event.
The demonstration in question was a side-by-side comparison of Blu-ray Disc recorded content compared with a DVD recording of the same content. The identical notebooks were each playing the Sony Pictures release, “House of Flying Daggers”- one notebook showing the DVD format and the other showing the Blu-ray Disc format.
The photograph taken by one of the reporters attending the event was of the DVD version used for demo. The Blu-ray Disc media had no label. I can attest that the disc in question was a Blu-ray Disc as I organized the event.
The Blu-ray Disc media used, though not a final master, was encoded and displayed using Blu-ray Disc technology and rendered in true 1080p resolution. This resolution could not possibly have been duplicated using a DVD. I hope this clears up any confusion.

Ok. We admit it. We were trying to come up with ways to get hits to our website. We knew if we somehow could make it look like Sony was caught in a wb of lies, every gaming and electronics site would link to us. We would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you meddling kids!

Haha, the last phrase didn't ring troll bells, even knowing that anyone can post under any name on there? ;p Impersonating people online is as old as the internet.

Still, sony showing off their amazing resolution differences on a laptop? This from a company that specializes in making big tvs that people will actually want to use them with? It's not all that hard to make a DVD look almost HD with a few decoding tweaks and a good resize filter, in realtime, on a good laptop, versus seeing it blown up on a huge screen. And although I can't find my copy to check the size, I'm sure HoFD was more than 4.3 gigs, so they recompressed it to put it on a DVDRW. Regardless of the validity of the article, it's still a bit of PR hype by sony.

They were showing off their new Blu-Ray enabled Laptops. What did you want them to do to show off the Blu-Ray drives on their new laptops? Play VideoCDs only?

Also from what I understand they were looping a section of the movie instead of just showing the entire movie. Hence why they put it on a DVD+R and are using a non labeled Blu-Ray disc.

Why is it so hard for you to believe it's not legit? Is it because of the rootkit debacle that has nothing to do with SCEA?

i assume that was not their main blu-ray showoff, more like a thing to show that also their laptops will have blu-ray. Else you are right, foxy, they'd be really stupid.

Because Sony has an awesome Hype machine (rivaling Microsoft's) and because this is the first that I've heard about it being a laptop display and not another general Bluray display.

Whatever it was a Fake-Ray show or not it is not much important to me. I am more concerned on the soft they did use to rip the DVD and why they did it on a DVD+R by Verbatim instead of a sony!
