Hey,

I'm fairly familiar with AviSynth and making DVD rips, but how exactly would i go about making a DVD movie into something high definition-like? Now, i'm aware of AviSynth scripts and all of that, that's not really what i'm asking about, i'm more curious about the programs that would have to be used and the steps required. Most of the encoding programs i'm familiar with are used to shrink DVDs, not balloon them.

Any help in clarifying this for me would be appreciated. Thanks.

"balloning" is never an option, because you cannot improve the quality over what you already have. In order to obtain specific suggestions on what software might be appropriate, you will need to be more precise yourself about what particular format you want to produce.

Let's say taking DVD material and upconverting it (along with other filters) to 720p.

To what final format? 720p is a resolution, but how do you intend on utilizing the end file (i. e. an AVI played on a standalone)?

This is for future HTPC use, so virtually anything that can be played back by MCE.
